fense before Voss punched it in from the one-yard line.

The 14-7 score held until halftime, the Falcons keeping themselves within striking distance after two quarters of play.

Another good kick return from the Hornets set up the visitors with excellent starting field position to open the third quarter. It did not take long for them to take advantage, as Smith found Viegut on a deep post pattern for a 43-yard touchdown pass.

Abbotsford answered immediately, as Castillo broke through several arm tackles on the ensuing kickoff to go 88 yards for the Falcons second touchdown of the evening and drawing the home team back within a single score.

It would be all Hornets from that point on. Smith found Caden Kleparski in the end zone for his second passing touchdown of the evening on the next drive, a 27-yard connection that put the Hornets up 28-14 following an extra point from Bryan Camargo.

After forcing an Abbotsford punt, Smith and Viegut connected for the Hornets’ third touchdown of the quarter, a 33-yard strike on the same play Colby scored on at the beginning of the quarter.

The trio of passing touchdowns put the Hornets in a comfortable position and two fourth quarter touchdown runs from Voss, one for 44 yards and the other for 16, put the game out of reach for the Falcons.

At the end of game, Colby racked up 287 yards on the ground and 109 through the air. Voss had 150 rushing yards and four touchdowns, Smith had 68 yards on the ground and Brennan Geiger added 54. Viegut had 76 yards receiving and 15 rushing and Kleparski had the 27-yard touchdown catch. Tanner Halopka led the defense with six tackles and Braiden Johnson’s fourth quarter interception all but sealed the game for the Hornets.

“As coaches we probably don’t say it enough but our offensive line did a nice job all night long playing physical and giving our quarterback time to throw the football,” Hagen said. “I was also very pleased that we were able to connect on seven out of seven extra points thanks to the accuracy of place kicker Bryan Camargo. You never know when a field goal or extra point could determine the outcome of a game.”

The Falcons ended the night with 214 yards of total offense. Jesus Reyes led the team in rushing with two runs totalling 56 yards while Aguilera picked up 39 on the ground. Castillo added 29 yards, Chase Boller had 25, and Fuentes had 10 yards. Emilio Escalera, Evan Reis and AJ Brodhagen each had a catch and Daniel Davila, Fuentes and Brodhagen each had seven tackles.

“We were really frustrated with the big plays we allowed which swayed the game totally one sided, he added. “Our kids played hard, which makes it more disappointing that we didn’t make it a good game the whole time.”
