Clark County Health offers grant opportunity

The Clark County Health Department (CCHD), under the direction of the Clark County Board of Health, is pleased to announce the Big Dreams, Better Communities grant opportunity. Funding from this grant is intended to support Clark County non-profit organizations in their endeavors to create healthier and more inclusive communities.

“We are looking to support a variety of projects,” said Health Educator/ Public Health Specialist Rebecca Greisen. “We hope to receive applications that promote the health and wellness of children, promote healthy eating, support infrastructure for physical activity, address mental health, or make special considerations for those who are physically, intellectually, or socioeconomically disadvantaged.”

Funding for the Clark County Health Department’s Big Dreams, Better Communities grant stems from the 1.9 trillion dollar package that President Joe Biden signed into law on March 11, 2021—known as the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The purpose of this package was to counteract the COVID-19 pandemic and to help support communities in their COVID recovery efforts. Of this money, a total of $58.4 million was given to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). From there, the Wisconsin DHS designated a specific amount of money to each local and tribal health department.

In general, local health departments can utilize this funding to either continue combating the COVID- 19 pandemic, or promote community recovery. The Clark County Health Department wishes to promote community recovery. For the Sept. 1, 2022 – Oct. 31, 2022 grant application window, a maximum of $15,000 may be awarded per non-profit organization. All Clark County non-profit organizations, with both small and large funding requests, are encouraged to apply.

“We see the potential to do so much good in our communities; new wood chips or playground equipment at parks, community gardens, development of new walking trails, ramps for wheelchair access, etcetera,” said Greisen.

The application form for the Big Dreams, Better Communities grant will be posted on the Clark County Health Department’s website at https://www. clarkcountywi.gov/healthdepartment. The Clark County Board of Health will review all applications postmarked on or before Oct. 31, 2022 and determine all awardees. Successful applicants will be notified of any grant awards in late November or early December 2022.
