Colby Cheese Days to run July 15 – 17

The 56th annual Colby Cheese Days will be taking place this coming weekend. Starting Friday, July 15th and concluding on Sunday, July 17th, the three day event will provide many opportunities for fun, including softball and volleyball tournaments, tractor pulls, live music performances, and the famous World Championship Cheese Curd Throw.

Before the main event begins, the 2022 Cheese Days book/movie sale starts on Thurdsay, running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Colby Lions’ Shelter. The sale will also run during the same times on Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Saturday will also feature $5.00 bag day, where you can purchase as many books as you can fit into a paper bag for just $5.00.

The festivities kick off Friday evening, with the local food stands opening up for business at 5 p.m. Tri-State Carnival stands and rides will open an hour later, at 6 p.m., along with the Abby-Colby Crossings Chamber of Commerce beer stand.

Fans of ATV and altered stock lawnmower pulls can head on over to the pulls on First Street starting at 6 p.m. Friday evening or those interested in volleyball can check out the start of the tournament at S. Sixth Street Park at the same time. The softball tournament begins at the Colby softball field located on S. East Street at 6:30 p.m. Colby Lions Bingo will start at 7 p.m.

The live music for the evening will be provided by Around Town, who will be performing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The events continue on Saturday morning with Run for Jamison Colby Cheese Days Race. Registration for the race begins at 7 a.m. at the Colby City Park on First Street. The 1 Mile Kid’s Run and Jamison Kampmeyer Memorial Mile begin at 8:15 a.m. followed by the 10K run at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K run immediately afterwards.

Softball and volleyball resume Saturday morning, with softball picking back up at 9 a.m. and volleyball starting at 10 a.m. Also starting at 10 a.m is the bench press contest sponsored by Benz Fitness on First Street, with the weigh-ins taking place at that time and the competition set to begin at 11 a.m.

If athletics aren’t your thing, then maybe the car show will be more to your liking. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the show itself starts at noon. Awards will be given out at 3:30 p.m.

The local food stands on First Street reopen at 11 a.m. followed by the beer stand and the midway stands and rides at noon. Colby Lions Bingo will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Those interested in pulls of all sorts will find some entertainment Saturday as well. The pedal tractor pull sponsored by ProVision Partners and the Colby FFA Alumni, as well as other supporters, is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Spence St. The pull is for children ages 4-12 and there is no entry fee. Each participant will earn a free ride ticket.

The Rural Arts Museum will be opening its doors on Saturday and Sunday at noon for visitors. They will stay open until 4 p.m. on both days.

The Red Higgins Band is scheduled to perform on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. They will be followed by The Dweebs who are set to go from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Looking to Sunday, the softball tournament will conclude, with the final games beginning at 9 a.m.

Check-in and registration for the Colby Cheese Days Parade is to take place at 10:30 a.m. at Colby High School. The parade is set to begin at noon, though the route will be slightly different than in years past. Due to the construction on Second Street, the parade route will be down the length of Third Street instead.

Weigh-in for the farm tractor pulls start at 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday morning on the south end of the track on First Street. The competition itself will begin shortly afterwards.

At 11 a.m. the local food stands will open back up for the day and the Colby VFW will start dishing out charcoal chicken at the same time. An hour later, the midway will open for business, as will the beer stand. Colby Lions Bingo will start its final rounds of the weekend at 1 p.m.

The Colby Show Choir is to perform on Spence Street at 1 p.m. or after the conclusion of the parade. Also on Spence Street will be the World Championship Cheese Curd Throw, sponsored by Century 21 Dairyland Realty. The event is to begin at 3 p.m. and there will be awards for first place in each age group, one male and one female.

A DJ will be providing hit songs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday evening to round out the musical entertainment for the weekend.
