He says his offense is the product of a well balanced and fine tuned team.

“It’s been coming off the hand well, and my teammates have been finding me open,” Decker said regarding his offensive output. “So they deserve a lot of the credit for giving me the opportunities I need to put the ball through the hoop.”

Decker’s teammates all seemingly got in on the action in the first half as the Hornets raced out to a 61-33 advantage at the break. With a nearly 30 point lead on his hands, coach Flink chose to sub in several of his role players.

Tucker Meyer benefited the most from these minutes, scoring a season high 16 points on the night, with ten of those points coming in the second half.

Junior Caden Healy received substantial playing time in the last frame, deflecting shots and scoring on putbacks.

Late in the game, a running clock was put in effect, and the Hornets were content to dribble the time off the clock. When it was all over, all eight scoring Hornets scored six or more points.

range with several deep threes. Brandon Voelker had one of his best games on offense with 13 points.

Mateo Lopez, Healy and Kaden Wiese all scored six points apiece, and that balanced offense has many of the Hornets feeling good about their fast start to 2022.

It’s four games in, with four games won in the new year.

“It feels great,” Decker said about Colby’s excellent start to 2022. “I mean, you couldn’t ask for anything better, really. We’re playing well as a team.”

Colby is not scheduled to play again for the next ten days. Their next game is at home against Columbus Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Coach Flink is hoping to pick up a game in the meantime, to keep his players sharp, but his roster is looking forward playing the Dons.

A victory over Columbus Catholic would go a long way in making the Eastner Cloverbelt a two team race. To do that, Decker says, Colby needs to continue to play at a high level.

“If we can do that, we have a good shot to win. We got Columbus coming up, so we win that, it gives us a great chance to win conference this year.”
