Royal Credit Union to take on People’s Choice Credit

Royal Credit Union (Royal) and Peoples Choice Credit Union (PCCU) have announced plans to merge.

The combined entity will operate under the Royal Credit Union name and leadership. PCCU has $50 million in assets, 5,000 members, and is headquartered in Medford.

The merger is expected to be complete later this summer.

“We recognized the opportunity that merging with Peoples Choice provides to bring Royal’s value proposition and community involvement to an area of Central Wisconsin that is a logical expansion because of its close proximity to our highly successful Colby branch,” said Brandon Riechers, Royal Credit Union president and CEO. “Royal is wellknown and respected in the area, which is already familiar with credit unions and the value they bring to a community.”

The merger was unanimously approved by both Royal’s and PCCU’s boards of directors on June 21, and is pending regulatory approval.

“The team members of Peoples Choice Credit Union, as well as the Board of Directors, have been privileged to serve our members and communities,” said Tom Judnic, Peoples Choice Credit Union board chair. “We believe Royal is well positioned to serve the needs of our members by offering personalized financial products and outstanding service. Royal’s values-driven culture and commitment to community align with the mission of Peoples Choice. We are working with Royal to ensure a smooth transition for our valued members.”

PCCU serves members in Clark, Chippewa, Price, Taylor and Rusk counties, which are currently in Royal’s field of membership.

Royal looks forward to creating new partnerships and expanding existing relationships in the region. In 2017, the RCU Foundation presented Huey’s Hideaway Children’s Museum in Medford with a $7,500 donation. These funds supported the museum’s mission to inspire children, connect families and build community through exploration, creativity, lifelong learning, and play.

Royal has also supported the museum by providing volunteers on Royal’s biennial Community Give Back Day.
