It’s been a season of peaks and valleys for the Abbotsford/Colby softball co-op. After rattling off three straight wins, the co-op is off to another streak, only this one is of the losing variety.

The co-op has dropped five straight, losing contests to Gilman, Neillsville and Columbus Catholic, along with a nonconference road loss to Ashland that puts their record at 3-7.

The co-op’s losing streak started with a 8-3 loss in Gilman to the Pirates. Gilman rode the arm of Addison Warner, who struck the co-op out 14 times.

The Pirates took an early 5-0 lead at the bottom of the third, and never looked back. Emma Oelrich, Kya Viegut and Kylie Orth scored the co-op’s three runs. Orth led Abby/Colby with two hits. Viegut, Oelrich, Emma Peavey, Brooklyn Filtzkowski and Paige Klement all tallied one hit, all singles.

Things didn’t get better for the co-op on Tuesday, May 11. Abby/Colby was in Neillsville for a double-header. The Warriors defeated the co-op 12-2 and 28-0. The co-op scored two runs in the first game off a home run from Paige Klement that sent Filtzkowski home.
