Highground plans stone ceremonies
The Highground Veterans Memorial Park has announced a few scheduling changes for its legacy stone ceremonies.
June 5 will be the first evening stone ceremony held at The Highground. This evening will honor the veterans’ organizations that have purchased a stone for the special area around the Wisconsin Map (United-in-Service).
The stone ceremony for the Military Working Dog Tribute has been rescheduled from June 6 to July 18 at 10 a.m. in conjunction with the stone ceremony for the Persian Gulf Tribute.
A Veterans’ Organization Open House as well as a meet and greet with Chris Pettis, the new executive director, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on June 6, followed by an afternoon Legacy Stone ceremony beginning at 1 p.m.
The Highground is hopeful there will be no other changes now that Wisconsin’s “Safer at Home” order is no longer in effect, and that visitors and supporters will be healthy and able to attend.
If you have a stone ceremony scheduled and need to change the date, call Kay Anason at 715-743-4224 or send an email to donations@thehighground.us.
Stone ceremonies will not be cancelled or postponed because of weather (unless conditions affect the safety of participants, e.g., a tornado or lightning). Guests are encouraged to plan accordingly and dress for the weather—rain, shine or snow.
Stone ceremonies for June and July are closed.
Additional Legacy Honor stone ceremonies will be held on Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.; and Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Korean Honor Stones will be placed on Sept. 19 at 10 a.m.
Note: Stones are ordered six weeks prior to the date of your choice, so be sure to schedule it early enough to ensure your stone arrives in time for your ceremony.
