ShowCase Players holding auditions Jan. 7 in Abby
The Showcase Players Community Theatre is holding auditions for their upcoming production of A Nice Family Christmas by Phil Olson. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, the play is directed by Jeffer Scheuer.
Auditions for this hilarious comedy — where the fruitcake hits the fan — will take place in the Abbotsford City Hall, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.
The cast includes three women and three men. The ages can be flexible, anywhere from 20s to 70s. The characters are (by order of appearance): Carl (20s-30s. Age can be flexible): The middle brother. Grew up in the shadow of his older brother, Michael, the doctor. He has a little inferiority complex.
Mom (middle aged. Age can be flexible): Very nice. Always putting on a happy face, her goal is to keep the peace and get through the family event without incident. She is widowed.
Grandma (70s-plus. Age can be flexible): A real character. Grew up in a oneroom house with 10 brothers and sisters on a farm in northern North Dakota. She has no filter.
Michael (20s-30s. Age can be flexible): The older brother. The doctor. A little nerdy. The favorite son, at least at first. He’s a little self-absorbed.
Stacy (20s-30s. Age can be flexible): The younger sister. Nice. kind of wholesome midwestern innocence. Overlooked, but not angry about it.
Uncle Bob (middle aged. Age can be flexible): A partier. Fun-loving. Has an agenda. Everyone has a crazy Uncle Bob.
Jill (20s-30s. Age can be flexible): Michael’s trophy wife. Emotional from being hormonal. Sometimes a little spacey. The only one who understands Grandma’s crazy sayings.
Performances will be held at the Colby High School Theatre on March 12, 13, 14, and 15. Evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
