A flurry of winter activities coming to Abbotsford library

The Abbotsford Public Library’s holiday season starts with the annual holiday party, Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. This will be the 30th year for this event.

This is a social event where community members demonstrate a holiday craft or skill for the audience. There are also prizes, food and holiday music.

The holidays are a time for sweets and fun, so on Friday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m., children are invited to the library to become a game piece in the favorite childhood game, Candyland. The library will hold a family movie after at 7 p.m., a sequel film about angry birds.

The library’s monthly craft night for adults will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. Participants will be making a block snowman with mitten hat. This is a registration required event. There is no cost; however, good will donations are accepted. This is expected to be a popular craft so the APL will offer it a second time on Jan. 16.

The library has plenty of fun planned for winter break. Children are invited to the library on Monday, Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. for a story and cut-out sugar cookie decorating, Call or visit the library to register.

On Tuesday, Dec. 24, come in for a hot cup of cocoa and a family movie at 10:15 am. The library will be showing a film about a grownup Dora the Explorer.

On Thursday, Dec. 26, from 5:307 p.m., and Friday, Dec. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, crafters old and young can come in to make perler bead tree ornaments.

Finally, on Monday, Dec. 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the walk-in-craft will be highly fashionable button bracelets.

For fans of escape rooms, the library has put together its own Frozen- themed puzzle room. The room will be held at once on Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. and three times on Tuesday, Dec. 31 (start times at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m.) There is a sign-up requirement and room limit. Call or stop by the library to reserve your spot.

Once the holidays are over, stop into the library to take part in the APL’s winter reading challenge, which will run throughout the month of January to the end of February.
