Celebration of Life for Gene Krug 183082 A couple of years ago, I suggested to my family that if they ever planned a “Celebration of Life” for me, I wanted to be there. When I reached 90 years old, they decided that would be a good time to do it. It turned into a wonderful birthday party held on April 18th at Crossroads Bar in Whittlesey, Wisconsin. What made the day even more meaningful was the location. Many years ago, Crossroads was known as Gil Krug's Tavern and Service Station, the establishment built by my father. I was just a baby when he started that business, and being able to celebrate this milestone there felt like bringing my life full circle. People I see often and those I don’t get to see nearly enough came from Whittlesey, across Wisconsin, and from other states. Having everyone together to celebrate was much better than I could have ever imagined. I have my family to thank for setting it all up, and I would also like to thank Jake Fuchs of Crossroads Bar for accommodating us and supporting all of my family’s ideas for the event. I have had a great life filled with great people, and it meant a lot to have a day to celebrate with all of you. Thank you for being part of it. And just to clear up any confusion — yes, I’m still here and doing just fine. - Gene Krug Celebration of Life for Gene Krug 183082 A couple of years ago, I suggested to my family that if they ever planned a “Celebration of Life” for me, I wanted to be there. Participants in the 2025-2026 Leadership Taylor County Class made a presentation to the Medford City Council on Tuesday night. The program is run by The Chamber and introduces emerging leaders in the community to existing civic and commercial leaders. Each year, the class takes on a project. This year they focused on ways to increase people’s awareness of what is going on in the community. They presented the idea of creating an online community calendar for events and activities through The Chamber and its websites. Other ideas were to use social media including TikTok to engage other audiences beyond traditional media. BRIAN WILSON/THE STAR NEWS
