Chief Deputy Chad Kowalczyk and Sheriff Corey Dassow on December 5 presented local resident Kevin Carstensen with the Good Samaritan Award during the Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Committee meeting for his actions during a vehicle crash with injury on October 15 of this year. Carstensen came upon the accident scene, observed that there was an injured female trapped inside the overturned vehicle (which was on fire) and sprang into action. Kevin grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out prior to any emergency services arriving on scene, potentially saving the female driver from further injuries or worse. “Well done Kevin! This is one of the many examples that makes the Taylor County community the best!” Dassow said. Dassow thanked Pirate Ship Productions at the Gilman High School for donating the plaque.
