Assembly Technician - Research and Development Job Type: Hourly Job Location: Research and Development Center POSITION SUMMARY: Designing award-winning products that solve our customers’ jobs-to-be-done is at the heart of what we do. As an R& D Assembly Technician, this is your unique opportunity to set your mark in the building materials industry. You will have the opportunity to see your innovations come to life in some of the most exclusive custom homes in North America. This position is responsible for building complex, limited run products that aren’t ready for mass manufacturing. You’ll work closely with design engineering to establish fabrication best practices, equipment requirements, and processes for each new product. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will learn from success and failures and actively share your ideas, experience, and support with other team members. You will be a key contributor to successfully transitioning new products to mainstream production. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESP ONSIBILITIES: • Fabricate and assemble custom wood and metal components for luxury windows and doors • Utilize woodworking techniques such as routing and joinery to create precise woodwork • Apply metalworking skills, including milling, fabrication, and machining, to create and finish metal components • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure that products meet functional and aesthetic specifications • Operate and maintain woodworking and metalworking machinery. Complete assigned preventative maintenance to ensure all tools and equipment are in excellent working condition. • Perform quality control inspections to ensure all products meet the company’s high standards. • Troubleshoot and resolve any fabrication issues that arise during the production process. • Adhere to all safety protocols and standards. Maintain a clean and organized work area. • Read and comprehend 2D CAD drawings and provided instructions. Help establish new best practices for assembly. • Assist in planning and collection of required materials and equipment for orders KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES RE QUIRED: • Strong technical skills in a hands-on fabrication role • Excellent mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot issues • Proficiency in using woodworking tools (e.g., saws, planers, routers) and metalworking equipment (e.g., saws, routers, punches). • Ability to read and interpret 2D technical drawings and design specifications • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines Interested candidates are to apply by completing an Internal Job Transfer Application, obtaining approval from their supervisor and submitting it to the Human Resources Department.
