The “Featured Farm of the Month” idea came up when members of the Medford FFA group attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were reminded that farmers are the roots of FFA and the backbone of our community. It is important that we recognize our local farmers and show appreciation to the small, but extremely vital group of people. Pitzke Farms 146201_4 The Medford FFA farm of the month is Pitzke Farms, Inc.! Pitzke Farms Inc. started in 1887 when their great grandpa moved to the area. Their first stall barn built is still used today! Brothers Adam and Andy, current owners, are the 4th generation on the farm! Today, Pitzke’s have a total of 447 holstein animals of which 244 are milking cows. The cows are milked in different areas on the farm; 82 of the Holsteins are in a stall barn and the other 162 Holsteins are in the robot barn. Adam and Andy added on the 2-robot addition in 2017, and another robot just this year, making it 3 robots total! The farm also has an automatic feed pusher and automatic isle scrapers. Pitzke Farm, Inc. is unique to the area because of their quality Holstein cow bloodlines that they sold to the UW-Madison Farm for seed stock in 1920. On top of dairy farming, they also sell seeds for grasses, corn, and small grains for planting. A fun Pitzke Farm fact that shows their passion for the dairy industry: their oldest cow, number 270, is 14 years and three months old! The farm is a “closed herd,” which means they raise all of their own youngstock for replacement animals. What a great family dairy farm right here in Taylor County! The Pitzke Farm, Inc. Family: Back row: Andy, Adam & Laurel, Front row: Hailey & Faith Pitzke Sponsored by Want to nominate or sponsor the next FFA Farm of the Month?
