Taylor County Educator of the Month SHIRLEY OLSON What do you teach? I taught 2nd grade for most of my years teaching at Holy Rosary Catholic School. I am currently working with different age level children that need intervention. How long have you been an educator? I have been at Holy Rosary Catholic School for 52 years. Who was your favorite/best teacher when you were a student and why? It was my first grade teacher. She let some of us girls spend the night at her house. That was so much fun! Why did you choose this profession? When I was in first grade I already wanted to be a teacher. I used to save my papers thinking that some day I would be able to use them in my classroom. What inspires you to continue as an educator? I think seeing smiles on their faces when they understand what is being taught. I just really enjoy helping them learn. What is your favorite memory as an educator? I enjoyed teaching the children cursive writing. They were always so excited to learn cursive.
