2025 LOYAL TRAP TEAM NATIONAL PARTICIPANTS Congratulations! Four youth from Loyal competed in the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship held in Mason, Mich., from July 9-13 at the Michigan Trapshooting Association, in the team’s first trip to nationals. Pictured (to left, l-r) are Blake Barlow (receiving a 93/100), Braxton Kauth (receiving a 99/100), Ben Beels (receiving a 95/100), and Payton Rueth (receiving 89/100). The championship featured 3,000 athletes participating in team and individual qualifying events, culminating in a final championship round to award the top 10 male and female athletes and top five teams in the country. Loyal was invited as a team but only four shooters were able to attend, and a full squad requires five participants. In order to place and go on to finals, a team had to place in the top 80. “A perfect score would be a 500 with five [shooters], but with the four we had we only missed 24 targets, which is a very good score,” said coach Heather Luchterhand. On an individual level, the league gives out badges for 25, 50, 75, or 100 straight, and Braxton Kauth (right) earned a 50 straight badge for hitting 50 consecutive targets without a miss. The Loyal youth trap team has existed for six years as a Loyal School District club, and includes approximately 25-30 students in grades 8-12 from Loyal, Greenwood, and Spencer. This year’s coaches included Heather Luchterhand, Doug Luchterhand, Riley Ashbeck, and Zach Kauth. The trip to nationals was sponsored by the Loyal Sportsman’s Club, Chili Implement, and Heck Livestock. The main support for the team comes from raffles and donations, as well as the Loyal Sportsman’s Club, Wings Over Wisconsin, and other individual sponsors.
