“Jake Jalapeno” (Jacob Lambrecht) of rural Greenwood visited a full house at the Granton Community Library last Wednesday to teach kids some fun facts about vegetables and entertain them with storytelling, juggling, a balancing act, and other antics. Jake is the author of “The Silly Food Book: A seriously funny book about food” and “The Silly Food Book: Second Helping,” and is working on a third book. His books aim to find a fun way to help kids take an interest in clean, healthy food. Above, Jake leads children in a “waggle dance.” Bees move in a figure-eight pattern, known as the waggle dance, to communicate to hive mates the direction they must fly to find honey. Shown l-r are Jake, Willow Polzin, Colt Hale, and Apollos Lambrecht. Top right, Jake told a story about how his mom made him work in the garden when he was a kid and that made him wear a long face. He showed kids his long face and invited them to display their best long face. At right, Jake juggled various combinations of vegetables and fruits, including a lemon, grapes, a head of lettuce, an onion, a potato, an apple, and more, and entertained the kids by taking a bite of each one while continuing to juggle successfully. He also balanced a chair on his chin. Jake’s books can be found on Amazon as well as the Abby, Colby, Granton, Greenwood, and Loyal public libraries.
