As an educator, it is incredibly moving to see how much our school means to the community. Events like this one help fund valuable programs and resources for our students. When kids see their whole town show up for them, it sends a powerful message: You matter. We believe in you. Thank you, community, for being there for our students and school! The “Get Your Color On Stampede” was more than a fundraiser; it was a joyful celebration of movement, generosity, and school pride. Watching 226 participants—young and old—run, walk, and bike their way through the course showered in color was a heartwarming experience. A special shout-out goes to the 14 high school students who became our honorary “color tossers.” With a toss of vibrant powder, they transformed every checkpoint into a festival of fun. They brought so much spirit to the course, showcasing their leadership and joy. Also part of the day was a “Celebration of the Arts” in which students’ art projects were on display inside, and students performed vocal and instrumental music for NEW FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE CHOIR DOES FANTASTIC JOB By Nathan Bier, elementary music teacher Even with the short time frame, the students put in a lot of hard work, and did a fantastic job at their debut appearance at the Middle School Pops Concert on May 19. I am very proud of each of the 12 students who took a chance on something new, and saw it through to the end. I am also proud of the students who started with the group, but decided it was not for them. It’s not always easy to try something new and each of these students stood up and tried. I am excited to see how this group will continue to grow and expand in the years to come. share more about that another day.) As I considered this idea, Mrs. Kuehl (Greenwood Middle School/High School band and choir director), came to me and said, “What do you think about starting an elementary choir?” Well, if a colleague presents you with the same idea you were already considering, it’s probably worth looking into. So, we spent a few weeks gauging interest and _iguring out the logistics to make this idea a reality. Once we knew there were enough students interested, we settled on rehearsing before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We allotted 30 minutes for each rehearsal; however, between buses and breakfast, it was usually only 15-20 minutes. There have been many highlights and learning opportunities for me over the course of this school year, and I am looking forward to seeing how our music program here in Greenwood will continue to grow in the coming years. One highlight in particular from this year was the formation of the _ifth and sixth grade choir. Theideaforthisnewprogramstartedwithbrainstorming ideas for other ways that our elementary students, particularly those in the older grades, could share their musical talents. One of those ideas was starting a choir.
