Spencer students love new playground equipment The cold, dreary day did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Spencer Elementary students as they collectively cheered and then raced to enjoy their new playground equipment Monday after the ribbon cutting. “It’s been a long process; I’d like to thank everyone for their patience,” said Jordan Buss, Spencer Youth Recreations (SYR) member and Spencer School Board president. SYR members have worked hard to make the project a reality, starting almost two years ago when they identifi ed the need for new playground equipment. They began seriously fundraising about a year ago. They were also there Sunday afternoon, raking rubber chips into place so the playground could be opened. A few pieces remain to bring the project to completion, including eight additional swings (the installers installed them incorrectly the first try), the poured-in-place rubber surface, a covered picnic table, benches and a donor sign that will be installed in spring/summer to complete the project. “Once these items are completed in spring/summer we will have a proper grand opening with all of our donors and supporters,” a Facebook post by the school district stated.
