Granton Music Department plays ‘Pass the Pumpkin,’ writes spooky songs The Granton Music Department has been hard at work again this year! We have been learning how to read music, about our rhythm friends and how they work in real music, folk dancing, key signatures, solfege and more! The elementary students have been using instruments to create songs and keep the steady beat as well as other rhythms. We just finished “Pass The Pumpkin,” in which the students use nine different instruments to play the song while reading music and listening to an ensemble. They had a blast! The high school choir used some class time to arrange and compose their own Halloween songs using xylophones, drums, percussion instruments, auxiliary percussion instruments and words. Granton FFA attends National Convention in Indianapolis and possibly the most daunting, was the delivery of their media plan in front of a panel of judges. The alumni member that the team selected to highlight in their media plan was Char Johnson. Char has been a very active member of the Granton FFA Alumni for the last 13 years and serves as a role model to our students. The media plan described efforts to highlight Char’s FFA involvement by using social media posts, radio ads and even a billboard to help celebrate Char. The team was asked questions about their media plan at the conclusion of their presentation. As a team, the group received a bronze rating. As individuals, Jordan and Lizzy received silver placings and Tori and Kennedy received bronze. Our chapter is so proud of this team for representing not only Granton school, but the entire state of Wisconsin. Well done! Above left, the FFA’s Ag Communications Career Development Event team consisting of Jordan Berg, Tori Seif, Lizzy Reinart and Kennedy Young won the state competition in April and earned their ticket to nationals. Since learning that they would be advancing to the national competition, the team spent their summer preparing for this rigorous competition. The national contest consisted of four areas of competition. First, the team had to develop a written media plan to promote FFA Alumni involvement by highlighting the efforts of one current FFAAlumni member. This media plan was submitted to nationals at the beginning of September. The second round of the national contest took place virtually at the beginning of October. The team was tasked with watching a press release and then creating some sort of media to share the information presented in the press release. Team members each had to complete a different job in this practicum. Jordan wrote an opinion piece, Tori wrote a journalistic piece, Kennedy designed a website and Lizzy produced a movie. The other two areas of the competition were completed at the National FFA Convention. The girls each took a 50-question written test about agricultural communications and grammar/editing written work. The last area of the competition, Above right (l-r), FFA members Megan Walter, Dolorosa Thomas, and Sam Martin received their American FFA Degrees at the 96th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The American FFA Degree is the highest honor a member can earn in the organization and less than 1 percent of members earn this award.
