Tales of our Beginnings Cadott • Cornell • Lake Holcombe areas Gustave Albert, Early Pioneer Born in Saxony, Germany, Dec. 18, 1872, to Carl and Pauline (Fritche) Albert, Gustave Albert came to Chippewa County, at the age of 17. At that time, he was employed at a sawmill and lumber camp in Estella. He enaged in lumbering until 1909, then began to develop the farm that would become his home. Gustave purchased 60 acres, in 1892, in Holcombe, By 1913, 30 acres were cleared and under cultivation. Gustave devoted most of his attention to dairy farming and was considered very successful in that avenue. He built a frame dwelling and a barn on the property. Gustave was united in marriage to Fannie Nagler, a native of Germany, in 1909. They had two children born to them – Charlotte and Mary.
