The largest barrier preventing people in need from getting the help they need is often not knowing what public and private programs are available to help them. Those who need assistance gained an ally recently with the opening of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of the Northwoods. The ADRC is located in the multipurpose building at the Taylor County Fairgrounds and shares office space with the Commission on Aging. The ADRC of the Northwoods is a multi-jurisdictional organization which exists to provide a “onestop shop” for those seeking assistance or simply with questions to ask.

For the past 14 years, Wisconsin Conservation Corps (WCC) crews have been making an important difference in communities across the state. Ronald and Joe “Pep” Simek, owners of Tombstone Pizza, Inc., Medford, have announced that they are constructing a new plant in the Medford Industrial park. They have sold their present building on highway 13 to Armbrust Meats Co., operator of a downtown meat market. The new building of cement block on a concrete base will comprise 24,000 square feet, four times the size of the present pizza plant. The owners state that the new building will enable the company to double its capacity and will be hiring a larger work force. The Simeks hope to occupy the new plant by April 1, 1973.

The co-op purchased the land from Bud Rief.

Medford High School’s football team, under Coach Van Antwerp, made a very good showing against Park Falls at that city Saturday, considering the fact that it was Medford’s first football game for over five years. Park Falls won 26 to 0, but the score does not show how good a fight Medford put up. Park Falls scored a touchdown in the first three minutes of play, and were held scoreless from that time until toward the end of the game, when they made three more touchdowns.

Prof, J.H. Francis resigned his job as principal of our city schools last week and at once departed for Milwaukee, where he has entered a medical college as a student. This move on the Professor’s part was a sudden one, and was as much a surprise to our school board as it was to others. As a consequence, our schools have now been conducted for two weeks without a principal, but the gentlemen constituting the board, Messers. E.L. Urquhart, E.H. Schweppe, and G.L. Schattuck, have arranged with a gentleman from Chippewa Falls to supervise our educational institutions in a short time.
