With the win guaranteed because Black River Falls only brought five swimmers, the Medford Raiders used Tuesday’s 11538 non-conference victory at the MASH pool as an opportunity to mix, match and experiment with the lineup. Freshman Mylah Hamland won two individual events and was part of two relay wins and Jayda Fryklund won two individual races and was part of one relay win as they led the Raiders to their fifth dual meet win of the fall. Hamland and Eva Strebig were the top two finishers in the 200-yard indivdual medley with times of 2:38.31 and 2:46.23. Strebig edged past the Tigers’ Lizzie Stevens by 1.05 seconds. Hamland swam the medley for the first time this season. In the 100-yard backstroke, Hamland won comfortably in 1:10.07 while teammate Emily Leao was second in 1:17.38, 5.59 seconds ahead of Tiger Annika Cernohous. In her second 100-yard freestyle of the fall, Fryklund won with a time of 1:02.39, better than her first swim of the season by 0.29 seconds. Saige Fettes was fourth for Medford in 1:11.9 in her first open 100. Fryklund led a Medford sweep of the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:21.95. Kodi Rappe (1:23.55) and Strebig (1:23.79) were well ahead of Tiger Amelia Schrock. Rappe won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.94, while Layla Petersen took second in 2:22.5, well ahead of Tiger Gracie Parker’s third-place time of 2:35.99. Aliyah Galan was fourth for Medford in 2:39.53. Petersen got a win a little later on, taking the 100-yard butterfly in a seasonbest 1:13.75, just 0.53 seconds ahead of teammate Tori Nicks. Nicks gave the Raiders second-place points in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.61 seconds. Teammates Sophie Sperl (28.24) and Adalyn Dittrich (29.6) were the next two finishers. Hannah Tubbs won it for Black River Falls in 25.58 seconds. Tubbs also won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:48.93. Sperl got her first taste of that event this fall and took second in 6:10.21, while Dittrich was third in 6:16.72 and Savannah Hebert was fourth for Medford in 7:26.56 in her first 500. Hamland, Sperl, Fryklund and Dittrich teamed up for the first time in the 200yard medley relay and won it in 2:06.93. Medford’s Olivia Emmerich, Strebig, Leao and Fettes were second at 2:17.41, clipping the Tigers’ team by 0.16 seconds. Hamland, Nicks, Petersen and Rappe won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.09, the fastest time of the fall so far for a Medford team. They were 7.57 seconds ahead of Black River Falls. Fryklund, Strebig, Fettes and Leao got the third-place points at 2:03.92, while the team of Autumn Venzke, Galan, Mata Decker and Hebert was fourth in 2:21.31. The Raiders swam unopposed in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Nicks, Sperl, Petersen and Rappe won in 4:19.07, followed by the teams of Dittrich, Leao, Fettes and Emmerich (4:39.23) and Venzke, Decker, Elizabeth Bartnik and Hebert (5:29.42). Chloe Pipkorn won two JV races. She took the 50-yard freestyle in 31.99 seconds, followed by Venzke (34.03) and Decker (36.93) and she took the 100-yard freestyle in 1:15.76, while Bartnik was second at 1:28.77. Galan won the JV 100yard backstroke in 1:28.54, while Decker improved to 1:50.73. It’s all Great Northern Conference competition now for Medford through the rest of the regular season. The Raiders are at Colby-Abbotsford today, Thursday, and will host Tomahawk on Oct. 2. Medford 125, Mosinee 30 The Raiders easily improved to 3-2 in GNC dual meets on Thursday, winning all 11 events in a 125-30 win at the program’s first-ever visit to Mosinee. The teams had held their first seven meets against each other since 2018 at the Medford pool. In the 100-yard backstroke, all Raiders improved their times. Hamland won it in 1:09.66 ahead of Dittrich (1:15.04) and Leao (1:16.21). The Raiders followed that with a Sperl win in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:14.73, while Emmerich (1:22.88) and Fryklund (1:23.55) were second and third. Earlier, Hamland handily won the 500yard freestyle in 6:17.27, while Fettes (6:59.83) and Galan (7:26.51) were second and third. Rappe won the the 50-yard freestyle in 28.01 seconds, followed by Nicks (28.62) and Petersen (29.42). Fryklund (1:18.82), Strebig (1:27.55) and Fettes (1:33.63) were the only entrants in the 100-yard butterfly. Rappe earned a second win in the 100yard freestyle with her time of 1:01.82. Nicks was second in 1:03.48 and Emmerich was fourth in 1:04.85. Petersen (2:20.61) and Dittrich (2:21.33) were the top two finishers in the 200-yard freestyle, well ahead of Mosinee’s Rache Ruthe (2:32.08). Strebig won the 200-yard individual medley. Medford ended the meet by taking the top two positions in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Hamland, Petersen, Emmerich and Nicks won it in 4:17.69, while Leao, Fettes, Galan and Hebert came in at 5:02.06. Hamland, Sperl, Petersen and Rappe won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:05.01, 14.96 seconds ahead of Mosinee’s top team. Dittrich, Strebig, Leao and Fettes were third in 2:21.14. Dittrich, Nicks, Sperl and Rappe took the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:55.52, 5.75 seconds ahead of Mosinee. Strebig, Hebert, Emmerich and Fryklund took the third-place points in 2:07.64. Decker, Bartnik, Venzke and Galan were fifth in 2:24.93. Venzke won the JV 100-yard freestyle in 1:13.34 and the JV 100-yard backstroke in 1:30.33 ahead of Decker (1:53.41) and Bartnik (1:56.72). Decker (36.68) and Bartnik (38.28) were third and fourth in the JV 50-yard freestyle.
