MEDFORD CROSS COUNTRY - Medford girls, Kahn taste victory at Mosinee CC Invitational

Going from the hilliest of courses at Timm’s Hill Thursday to a much flatter one Tuesday, the Medford girls cross country team earned its second straight team championship trophy by winning the Mosinee Invitational held at the Nine-Mile County Forest Recreation Area in Wausau.

Senior Lindsay Kahn captured her first individual win of the season, while Morgan Liske and Melanie Richter got themselves in the top 10. Mallory Richter and Greta Seidel finished off the win with top-20 efforts among a field 82 runners representing 12 teams.

The Raiders had 10 entrants in the girls varsity race and eight of them improved their times from the Timm’s Hill meet. They scored 36 team points to beat Wausau East by 12 points and easily distanced themselves from the rest of the field, which included Stratford (99), Rhinelander (102), Edgar (107), Mosinee (157), Antigo (179) and Spencer (205). Lakeland, Adams-Friendship, Northland Pines and Northland Lutheran were incomplete.

Kahn cut 1:27 and won the race in 20:07.7. She outran three Great Northern Conference representatives, Emerson Rubo of Lakeland (20:46.5), Addison Eggen of Lakeland (21:15.9) and Macy Myers of Rhinelander (21:17.8). Rubo and Eggen are freshmen.

Liske took fifth in 22:13.7, well ahead of Wausau East’s Elise Wetzsteon (22:37.5). Melanie Richter, Medford’s top freshman, was seventh in 22:37.7.

Senior Mallory Richter was 15th in 23:37.9 and Seidel continued her muchimproved start over last year. The sophomore was 18th in 24:03.5.

Kyra Scheithauer (24:54.3), Esmeralda Anderson (24:59.8) and Kayla Daniels (25:08.5) formed a nice pack, finishing 25th, 27th and 28th. Josey Krug was 61st in 30:18.4 and Lauren Stark was 72nd in 35:08.8.

Medford’s boys placed fifth out of 10 scoring teams with 123 points, beating Edgar (135), Mosinee (154), Northland Pines (198), Antigo (242) and Northland Lutheran (249). Lakeland won the meet with 55 points, 12 fewer than Stratford. Wausau East (105) and Rhinelander (108) were well off the pace. Adams-Friendship and Spencer were incomplete.

Sophomore Corbyn Radlinger led Medford with a 15th-place time of 19:35.2, an improvement of 1:13 over Thursday. Junior Peyton Ried was 18th in 19:52.1, improving by 58 seconds from Timm’s Hill, and senior Evan Pagel was 20th in 20:01.7, improving by 1:11.

Sophomore Ace Arndt, in his first race of the fall, placed 31st out of 97 finishers in 20:45. Junior Nevyn Gripentrog filled Medford’s fifth spot and took 39th in 21:31.4, cutting 1:17 off his time from Thursday.

Also in Medford’s Tuesday crew of seven runners, Jordan Lavin was 53rd in 22:34.6 and Angus Hamland, making his 2025 debut, was 89th in 28:05.3.

Rhinelander’s Avrom Barr won the boys race in 17:42, beating Edgar’s Cade Koch to the finish line by 1.7 seconds. Edgar’s Dilan Sondelski was third in 17:58.5, while Lakeland’s team win was led by Parker McKinney (18:02.9), Brayden Kelly (18:27.4) and Barrett Eggen (18:38.7) who were fourth through sixth.

Medford will next run at the Marshfield Invitational, set for this coming Tuesday at Wildwood Park.
