LumberJacks come in swinging LumberJacks come in swinging
On a perfect night for baseball, the Cadott Red Sox played one last Chippewa River Baseball League game, July 30, at home, against Chippewa Falls. Cadott poured on the runs in the second inning and the LumberJacks evened up the score, going into the fifth inning. The momentum then swung toward the visitors, as they knocked in seven runs, to claim an 11-8 victory. “The Red Sox hit three homeruns in the game, but the pitching was a little off, walking eight batters in the game and it proved too much to overcome,” said manager Rick Danielson. Gio Basile was on the mound for Cadott, going six innings, taking the loss, with 8 hits and 6 runs, while Jack Gabler, Jalen Pascal and Zack Thiesse all took turns at the helm, allowing a collective 4 hits and 5 runs. “The LumberJacks have a really good offense,” said Danielson. “They took advantage of the opportunities that we gave them. You can’t walk a lot of batters or have errors, because good teams will capitalize.” On offense, the Sox came with some good hits, with Luke Erickson recording 3 hits, while Logan Burzynski added 2, and Cole Bakkum, Sam Feck and Jack Redwine all chipped in with a hit. “We had a great league season, winning 17 games,” said Danielson. “It was a lot of fun. We have a great group of guys in Cadott. They work really hard and want to win. I’m really proud of what the guys accomplished this season.” The Sox now head into the Wisconsin Baseball Association playoffs, Aug. 8-10. If they get past two Regional games, they’ll head to State the next weekend. Photo by Ginna Young
