Sox clinch the North
It was a good weekend for the Cadott Red Sox Baseball team, as they outright clinched the North Division title of the Chippewa River Baseball League (CRBL).
July 19 vs. Eau Claire Cavaliers (W 8-1)
Picking up a game where they left off June 8, which was called, because of rain, the Sox headed to Eau Claire, to take on the Cavs. It was all Cadott, allowing the Cavs just one run, opposed to the eight the Sox put on the board.
“The Cavs are one of the top teams in the league,” said manager Rick Danielson. “The guys came out, played a great game today.”
Henry Wilkinson was on the mound for Cadott, going two innings, while Christian Schaller went three innings, giving up a lone hit. Gio Basile also took a turn, going three innings, with 3 hits, and Jalen Pascal went an inning, allowing a hit and a run.
Coming up with hits for the Sox, were Zac Merritt, with 3, and Cole Bakkum, Jack Redwine and Logan Burzynski, who all had 2. Adding a hit each, were Luke Erickson, Jonah Hanson, Sam Feck and Peyton Platter.
“Pitching was dominant,” said Danielson. “The offense just kept cruising.”
July 20 vs. Bloomer (W 14-4)
The next day, the Sox were on the road to Bloomer, to face the Woodticks, in what was an evenly matched game early on. Both teams put three runs on the board in the opening inning, along with a run in the third.
After that, Cadott pulled away, to add 10 more to the scoreboard, to claim a 14-4 victory and clinch the North Division CRBL title.
“This is the Red Sox’ first division title since 1983,” said Danielson. “We also are the current number one seed in the CRBL, with a two-game lead in the standings over the Eau Claire Bears.”
Pitching for the Sox, was Danielson, going four innings and giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while Jack Gabler went three innings, allowing 3 hits, and Redwine was at the helm for an inning, striking out 2 batters.
Burzynski racked up 3 hits for the Sox, with Hanson adding 2 hits, while Redwine, Feck, Merritt and Carter Hesselman all chipped in with a hit.
“We have a lot of games (six) this week, so we are trying to get innings from a few guys who haven’t thrown a ton this year, to keep guys rested for the playoffs,” said Danielson. “The offense just keeps cruising. They were really patient at the plate today, and put up double digits once again.”
