Medford’s American Legion Post 147 Senior Legion baseball team got a momentum builder going into the postseason Monday with a 12-2, five-inning rout of visiting Stratford.

Tanner Hraby hit three doubles while going three for three, Parker Lissner was three for three with a double and three runs batted in and Carson Carbaugh had three hits including an RBI double to lead the 12-hit attack. Three pitchers combined to limit Stratford to five hits.

Post 147 led 9-0 before Stratford got on the board in the fourth.

Leading 2-0 after an inning and a half, Medford doubled its lead in the second on Hraby’s RBI double and Lissner’s RBI single. In the third, Gierl reached on an error and scored on Carbaugh’s double. Walks to Evan Czarnezki, Hayden Strebig and Sam Hierlmeier forced in a run and Evan Wilkins knocked in two with a base hit. Lissner’s sacrifice fly capped the fiverun inning.

Strebig drove in a run with a ground ball in the fourth. Hraby and Lissner hit backto- back doubles in the fifth and Lissner scored the clinching run on an error on a ball hit by Charlie Gierl, who also drove in a first-inning run with a groundout.

JV Castillo struck out one in two innings of work. Strebig struck out one and walked one in his two innings. He allowed three hits and an earned run. Gierl pitched the fifth, allowing two hits and earned run and a hit batter while striking out one.

Medford opens Wisconsin American Legion Class AA tournament play today, Thursday, at the six-team Minocqua regional. Post 147 plays the host 89ers at 11 a.m. The winner plays at 2 p.m. Friday while the loser plays at 11 a.m. The doubleelimination tournament runs through Sunday.
