Cadott breaks their losing streak at just the right time

By Ginna Young

Kicking off the post-season, the Cadott softball program was in action, May 22, at No. 8 Spencer, coming in as the No. 9 seed in the Regional match-up.

The Hornets began the game by putting two runs on the board, with Spencer answering with a run of their own in the second inning. Cadott refused to be intimidated and had seven runs cross the plate in the third inning. Spencer rallied a bit, adding two runs of their own in the bottom of the third.

Cadott wouldn’t quit and knocked in three runs in the fifth inning, and two more in the sixth, while Spencer had a single run come in during that time. That led to the Hornets taking the victory, 15-4, to advance to the second round of Regionals, May 27, at No. 1 Stratford.

Senior Kasey Moldrem was on the mound for the Hornets, going six innings, and giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, while punching out 10.

On the offensive side, Cadott came up with 23 hits on the night, including 4 from Karlee Davis, and 3 each from juniors Lexi Bremness and Kennedy Nerdrum, and sophomore Kaylee Reineke. Adding 2 hits each to the mix, were seniors Rilei Weeks and Tarynn Donahue, Moldrem, junior Abi Bowe and sophomore Gracie Dahm.

“We finally broke our 12-game losing streak tonight, when it really counted,” said coach Lexie Rothbauer.
