Stratford’s varsity boys track and field squad gained redemption from losing the Marawood Conference championship to Marathon a week ago by beating the Red Raiders on Monday night to win its third consecutive WIAA Division 3 regional title. The Stratford boys tallied a team high 166 points at Tiger Stadium compared to runners-up Marathon with 141-1/2. The Edgar boys placed third with 118-1/2 points.

Marathon head coach Curt Miller said that junior Chris Marcell’s discus throw of 220 feet, eight inches at the Stratford regional is the unofficial best throw in Wisconsin history. Miller said this discus throw currently ranks No. 2 in the nation. Marcell also won the regional shot put championship with a throw of 61 feet, 3/4 inch.

The top four boys who place in each regional event advance to sectionals at 3:30 p.m. this Friday, May 30, in Marathon. Stratford sophomore Tyler Budtke took second place in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 8-1/2 inches and Marathon sophomore Landon Hilgart was third with 45 feet, 3-1/4 inches.

Stratford senior Jett Schoenherr won the 100-meter dash in 11.03 seconds and he took second place in the 200-meter dash in 22.69 seconds. Edgar senior Eli Slack placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds.

Tigers junior Coltan Breit won the long jump with 19 feet, six inches and his sophomore teammate, Connor Kraft, placed second with 19 feet, 3-1/2 inches. Edgar senior Ty Schnelle was fourth with 19 feet, 2-1/2 inches.

Edgar sophomore Isaiah Kraft won the 800-meter run in 2:05.26. Stratford senior Garrett Zuelke placed second in 2:05.56 and his senior teammate, Ethan Heeg, was fourth in 2:06.73.

Marathon sophomore Garrett Bracewell won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.84 seconds. Edgar junior Tucker Streit took second place in 15.45 seconds while Stratford junior Mason Miller was third in 16.02 and Marathon senior Logan Witberler was fourth in 16.03.

Witberler won the triple jump with 43 feet, five inches. Kraft of Stratford took second place with 42 feet, 8-12/ inches, Stratford senior Brandon Knetter was third with 42 feet, 7-3/4 inches and Streit of Edgar was fourth with 42 feet, 6-1/2 inches.

Marathon freshman Alec Miller won the pole vault with 13 feet, three inches while his senior teammate, River Stanecki, placed second with 13 feet. Edgar senior Eli Slack was fourth with 11 feet, three inches.

Stratford senior Xander Curtice took second place in the high jump with six feet followed by Marathon freshman Cael Riesgraf in third with five feet, 10 inches and Bracewell in fourth with five feet, 10 inches.

Streit of Edgar placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 40.55 seconds while Marathon sophomore Fred Tylinski was third in 41.48 and Stratford freshman Henry Heeg was fourth in 44.23.

Edgar junior Cade Koch took third place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:44.80 followed by Stratford senior Derek Wiese in fourth in 4:47.43. Stratford senior Cree DeFoe placed third in the 3,200-meter run in 9:55.93.

Stratford’s 4x100-meter relay took first place in 43.61 seconds and consists of sophomore Carter Foster, junior Zander Zawislan, Breit and Schoenherr. Alternates are juniors Mason Miller and Austin O’Neil. Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay took second place in 44.46 seconds and includes seniors Austin Schreiber and Ty Schnelle, sophomore Caius Higgins and freshman Landon Lukasko. Alternates are senior Eli Slack and junior Maverick Butt. Marathon’s 4x100-meter relay placed third in 45.18 seconds and includes juniors Luke Hoenisch, Nathan Hoenisch and Javier Pintor and Witberler.

Stratford’s 4x800-meter relay took first place in 8:23.36 and includes Ethan Heeg, senior Cooper Bosmans, Cree DeFoe and Zuelke. Marathon’s 4x800-meter relay placed second in 8:25.09 and includes Peters, Krautkramer, Rohland and Annis. Alternates are juniors Ethan Huebsch and John Kahon. Edgar’s 4x800-meter relay placed third and includes juniors Dillan Sondelski and Dom Contreras and sophomores Carson Nowak and Isaiah Kraft. Alternates are Koch and Van Ornum.

Raider girls win regional title

Marathon’s varsity girls track and field squad won the WIAA Division 3 regional on Monday in Stratford with 103 points, compared to 88 for the runners-up Tigers who bested the Red Raiders a week ago for the Marawood Conference championship. Edgar placed fourth at regionals with 77 points.

The top four girls in each regional event advance to sectionals at 3:30 p.m. this Friday, May 30, in Marathon.

Red Raiders freshman Bristal Bauman won the pole vault with nine feet while her sophomore teammate, Natilee Hummer, placed third with eight feet, six inches. Marathon junior Emma Love took third place in the shot put with 31 feet, 11 inches and her senior teammate, Izzy Vardon, placed fourth in the high jump with four feet, eight inches. Marathon senior Jayden Henrichs placed fourth in the 100meter hurdles in 18.36 seconds.

Edgar freshman Shiloh Karlen won the long jump with 16 feet, four inches while Stratford sophomore Brianna Sherden placed second with 16 feet, 1-1/4 inches and Edgar sophomore Rachel Burke was third with 16 feet, 1/2 inch. Karlen also won the triple jump with 34 feet, 1/4 inch while Burke placed third with 33 feet, 41/4 inches and Edgar senior Addisyn Trawicki was fourth with 32 feet, 6-1/2 inches.

Sherden won the 100-meter dash in 12.94 seconds and Baumann of Marathon was second in 13.53. Sheridan took second place in the 200-meter dash in 26.22 seconds while her junior teammate, Dawnyel Martin, was second in the 300meter hurdles in 49.64.

Stratford senior Kayla Casperson won the 3,200-meter run in 11:54.77 and Marathon senior Shilo Blake was second in 11:57.57. Blake placed second in the 1,600-meter run in 5:52.30.

Edgar sophomore Makita Ellenbecker took second place in the discus with a throw of 110 feet, seven inches and her twin sister, Naquene Ellenbecker, was third with 107 feet, 10 inches.

Stratford’s 4x100-meter relay took first place in 51.42 seconds and includes freshmen Wynn Schoenherr and Lillian Kaiser, Martin and Sheridan. Alternates are junior Hailey Decker and freshman Morgan Schmidt. Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay took third place in 52.33 seconds and consists of senior Mia Stencil, Trawicki, Burke and Karlen. Alternates are freshman Ashley Krause and sophomore Abigail Christiansen. Marathon’s 4x100-meter relay placed third in 52.88 seconds and includes senior Addie Molepske, junior Madelyn Volkman and sophomores Maycie Myszka and Kayla Cihlar. Alternates are junior Lindsay Putnam and Baumann.

The Wildcats’ 4x200-meter relay took first place in 1:49.68 and includes Stencil, Trawicki, Burke and Karlen. Alternates are Christiansen and Krause. Stratford’s 4x200-meter relay placed third in 1:50.33 and includes Martin, Schmidt, Kaiser and Schoenherr. Alternates are freshmen Samantha Frick and Jayelynn Shanks.

Bluejays at Gilman regional

Athens boys and girls varsity track and field athletes competed in Tuesday’s WIAA Division 3 regional in Gilman. The top four boys and girls in each regional event at regionals advances to sectionals in Colby at 3:30 p.m. this Friday, May 30.

Bluejays sophomore Ellis Baer won the girls 1,600-meter run in 5:47.20 while her senior teammate, Brianna Sheahan, placed third in 5:48.26. Baer took second place in the girls 800-meter run in 2:31.46. Sheahan took second place in the 3,200-meter run in 12:31.08.

Athens junior Sy’Rih Hartwig won the girls shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 8-3/4 inches and she placed third in the discus with 117 feet, three inches. Bluejays sophomore Cole Hartmann took second place in the boys discus with 127 feet.

Bluejays senior Malaina Telschow won the girls pole vault with 10 feet and her sophomore teammate, Grace Schreiner, took second place with eight feet, nine inches. Athens senior Kyle Schreiner won the boys pole vault with 14 feet.

Athens freshman Ben Hartwig won the boys 1,600-meter run in 5:08.62 and his junior teammate, Eli Paul, placed fourth in 5:10.43. Hartwig took second place in the boys 3,200-meter run in 11:02.22. Bluejays sophomore Brock Beaty placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.06 seconds while junior Brandon Krause placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 56.36. Athens freshman Jaci Hart took third place in the girls 400-meter dash in 1:04.50.
