Elusive first place win comes way of Knights

By Ginna Young

It’s been a long time coming, but at last, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe golf program captured first place at a match.

May 6 Cumberland Match

The Knights were at Cumberland, in a match hosted by Turtle Lake, where sophomore Bryce DeJongh carded a score of 41, followed by junior Logan Jaedike, with 46. Senior Torren Parker came next, carding a 49, while junior Alex Dixon scored a 54.

“We had a total team score of 190, showing continuous improvement and we’ve now taken over the overall second place in our conference, after again finishing just behind Turtle Lake,” said coach Megan Bitney. “We cannot stress how incredibly proud we are of this team and how hard they’re working. We’re crushing our previous team scores and we cannot wait to see just how far we can go, these remaining weeks before Conference.”

May 9 Winter Match

A few days later, the Knights were at Winter, where De-Jongh scored 42, with Parker ending with a score of 44. Dixon followed that with 47, while Jaedike carded a 48.

“They battled hard and just couldn’t catch Turtle Lake, came up just short by two strokes,” said Bitney.

May 12 Bruce Match

It was then off to Bruce, where Parker led the team to their first ever first place win, with his score of 37. De-Jongh wasn’t far behind, with 41, while Dixon and Jaedike each scored 45.

“This was a win that was very much needed and they are all feeling very accomplished, as they should,” said Bitney. We, as coaches, are so incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work that is paying off for this respectable group of young men.”
