Competition is pushing the Knights to show their best

There were back-to-back meets for the Cornell-Lake Holcombe track program, as the weather warms and the season races on.
May 6 Bloomer Meet
It was off to Bloomer, for the first meet of the week, where many of the athletes saw personal bests. Placing high for the Knights, was junior Megan Paff, who finished in fourth, in shot put, with a throw of 29-11 and seventh in discus (90-08), while freshman Ann Pogodzinski was 17th in the 300-meter hurdles (58.63) and 18th in the 100-meter hurdles (20.82).
On the boys’ side, junior Carson Stipek finished in seventh in pole vault (10-06), with senior Hunter Anders placing 11th in high jump (5-04) and 18th in the 200-meter dash (25.42).
“It was our first nice track meet,” said coach Laurie Bowe. “Many of the athletes got their personal best. They had a lot of competition, so it pushed our athletes to do their best.”
May 8 vs. Colfax Meet
A couple days later, the Knights were at Colfax, with Pogodznski placing high for her team, taking fifth in the 100 hurdles (20.75), sixth in the 300 hurdles (58.26) and eighth in high jump (4-04), while Paff was sixth in discus throw (94-07).
Freshman Lane Porter took seventh in the 800-meter run (3:14.36), with freshman Kaitlyn Helland in ninth in the high jump (4-04), 16th in long jump (10-10) and 18th in the 100-meter dash (16.30).
For the boys, Anders finished in second (5-06) in high jump and ninth in long jump (16-09), followed by junior Alex Dixon in third in triple jump (34-07) and sixth in the 800 run (2:32.32), while Stipek took fourth in pole vault (10-06) and 20th in the 100 dash (13.89).
Coming in sixth in pole vault, was sophomore Bryce De-Jongh (9-06) and 14th in the 100 dash (12.98), while junior Logan Jaedike was seventh in the 200 dash (26.08). Placing 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:12.13), was junior Jordan Ness, who was also 19th in the 200 dash (29.56), with sophomore Will Willmarth in 11th in long jump (1508), and junior Tommy Kane finishing 11th in shot put (31-02) and 14th in discus (83-03) “Girls’ and boys’ teams are improving every meet,” said Bowe.
