Cadott is playing solid baseball at mid-season

By Ginna Young

Cadott’s baseball program started out slow, but picked up momentum, coming up with two big wins, to move to 6-5 on the year, and 2-2 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.

April 29 vs. Regis conference (L 10-2)

The Hornets were in action, on the road at Regis, but a lack of offense led to Regis taking a 10-2 victory.

Junior Aiden Rykal started on the mound, going three innings, and allowing 5 hits and 6 runs, as well as 5 walks, while striking out 4. Freshman Jake Weeks then took over, going over an inning, giving up 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks, and striking out a batter. Sophomore Isaac Wellner was then at the helm, going an inning, allowing 2 hits and a run.

On the offensive side, Rykal, Weeks, senior Warren Bowe and freshman Drew Rykal all added a hit each.

May 1 vs. Regis conference (W 5-1)

Without any time to gather their thoughts, the Hornets played Regis yet again the next night, this time, hosting the Ramblers. It was a much different outcome than the previous game, with Cadott claiming the win, 5-1.

Bowe was at the helm for the Hornets, going just over six innings and allowing a single hit, and the lone run for Regis, while punching out 14. D. Rykal then came in to close it out, holding the score for Cadott.

D. Rykal also added 2 hits to the scoreboard, while Bowe, A. Rykal and junior Michael Wellner all had a hit.

“Solid game all around,” said coach Brandon Geist.

May 2 vs. Gilman non-conference (W 4-3)

In their third game of the back-to-back-to-back series, Cadott headed to Gilman, in what was a close game throughout. Both teams scored in the first inning, with the Hornets adding another run in the second.

The fourth inning was a repeat of the first, with both teams putting a run on the board, as was the seventh, but thanks to their one-run lead, Cadott hung on, to take the victory, 4-3.

On the mound for the Hornets, was D. Rykal, who went five innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs, but striking out 4. Weeks then took a turn, finishing out the game with 2 hits, a run and a walk, striking out 2.

Coming up with hits for the Hornets, were A. Rykal, with 3, and I. Wellner and Weeks, who each had a hit.
