Cadott seeing some high performances at the meets

By Ginna Young

Even though they had to cancel their planned home meet, the Cadott track program still competed at two events, doing well at each.

April 22 vs. Edgar Meet

The Hornets were off to Edgar, taking part in a meet with athletes from other areas.

“Tuesday was a fun meet, as we competed against a number of schools that we have not seen anywhere else this season,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.

For the boys, sophomore Beau Steinke took top honors, coming in first in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 10:18.33. Senior Tucker Salzgeber followed that with third place in shot put (36-6), with sophomore Kaden Roen placing fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.08) and sixth in the long jump (17-5.25).

Placing seventh in the 3,200 run, was junior Saibyn Will, while sophomore Brenton Faber took seventh in the high jump (5-4) and triple jump (34-7.5), and sophomore Jon Phelps was 10th in the 1,600-meter run (5:38.74).

On the girls’ side, senior Adrianna Goodman placed second in high jump (4-6), fifth in the triple jump (312.25) and sixth in the long jump event (15-3.5). Freshman Sydney Spaeth also placed high, finishing in third in the 400-meter dash (1:07.56), fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.59), sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.72) and eighth in long jump (14-5).

Taking sixth place in the discus throw, was freshman Sophie Kowalczyk (78-1), with sophomore Tessa York in seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.7) and 10th in the pole vault event (5-0), while junior Marley Mengel ended in eigth in the 100 hurdles (24.14) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (1:05.6).

Placing ninth in the 100 hurdles, was sophomore Maddie Hrdlicka (24.16), while senior Molli York was ninth in shot put (27.3), and senior Keira Urbanek was ninth in high jump (4-0) and 100 dash (15.04). Also finishing in the top 10, was senior McKenna Steinke, in the 1,600 run (7:08.21).

“It is always great to have an April meet where it doesn’t rain on you, as well,” said Rothbauer.

April 26 UW-La Crosse Meet

It was then off to a place Rothbauer really looks forward to taking his athletes – the location of where State track takes place, at the UW-La Crosse campus.

“I think this is very important, because it is so much more grand than anywhere else that we run, that it can be a real shock to some athletes who earn the trip to State and see that venue for the first time,” he said. “This way, State hopefuls can see it earlier in the year.”

Roen again placed high, taking third in the 400 dash (52.57) and ninth in the 200 dash 923.68, while Faber was sixth in high jump (5-06).

Taking part in this meet, was junior Iszy Sonnentag, who placed first in the 400 dash (57.03), second in the 100 hurdles (15.34), second in long jump (16-11) and fourth in the 200 dash (26.28). Junior Haley Mathison took fifth in the discus throw (104-2) and shot put (332.5), with Spaeth placing seventh in the 100 dash (13.20) and freshman Kaylee Stai in 10th in pole vault (6-0).

“It was a great weather meet, so we had a high number of PR performances,” said Rothbauer.
