Raiders prepping for the playoffs

Marathon’s varsity boys basketball team defeated a solid Phillips squad, 8358, on Friday at home. Senior Cody Radtke made all of his three treys toward scoring a game-high 22 points.
Junior True Thurs added 17 points and he led the Red Raiders with eight rebounds. Junior Drew Woelfel scored 16 points and he grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore Ean Shuda paced the team with four assists and senior River Stanecki had three assists.
Marathon then beat a good Wittenberg-Birnamwood team, 53-49, on Tuesday at home. The Red Raiders improve their overall record to 14-7 this season while the Chargers fall to 16-5.
Red Raider girls also win
Marathon’s varsity girls basketball squad defeated Marawood North Conference leader Phillips, 69-65, on Friday at home. Sophomore Mayven Schneider led the Red Raiders with 17 points followed by sophomore Katelyn Love with 15 points and junior Mylee Haehlke with 10 points.
The Red Raiders then beat the Spencer Rockets, 55-49, on Monday at home. Junior Emma Love led Marathon with 17 points and she added seven rebounds. Haehlke contributed 16 points and she paced the team with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Marathon improves its overall record to 18-5 this season.
‘Cats earn home sweep
Edgar’s varsity girls basketball team easily beat Chequamegon, 68-34, on Friday at home. Junior Brandi Halvorsen and sophomore Jorja Knetter led Edgar with 14 points apiece. Sophomore Isabella Kaiser added 10 points and senior Emery Borchardt had nine in the win.
Kaiser paced the Wildcats with eight rebounds and Borchardt added six. Knetter led Edgar with five assistants and Borchardt had four. Borchardt paced the team with six steals and freshman Kendal Apfelbeck added five. Halvorsen led the Wildcats with two blocked shots. Edgar now has an 8-15 overall record this season.
Senior Leyton Schuett scored 23 points and had five steals in the Edgar varsity boys basketball team’s 87-55 home win against Chequamegon on Friday. Sophomore Carson Nowak added 21 points and he led the Wildcats with seven rebounds. Senior Kasen Ristow added six rebounds in the victory.
Edgar junior Maverick Butt made all four of his three pointers toward his 12 points in the game. The Wildcats improve their overall record to 8-12 this season.
Tigers sweep Redmen
Stratford’s varsity girls basketball squad beat Rib Lake, 45-28, on Thursday at home. Sophomore Carly Pankratz led the Tigers with 15 points and four steals. Senior Kayla Casperson added 12 points. Junior Tria Tubbs paced the team with eight rebounds. Senior Kassedey Downey led Stratford with two blocked shots. The Tigers improve their overall record to 18-5 this season.
Junior Riley Spindler scored a careerhigh 25 points in the Stratford varsity boys basketball team’s 74-64 home win against Rib Lake on Friday. Senior Drew Bruesewitz added 18 points and four assists. Senior Kaden Foster contributed 16 points. Junior Brooks Vanderhoof led the team with five assists. Both Foster and Vanderhoof had four steals each.
Stratford beat Weyauwega-Fremont, 5537, at home on Tuesday. Bruesewitz led the Tigers with 20 points. Foster added 10 points and he paced the team with four steals. Stratford improves its overall record to 19-2 this season.
