Great Northern Conference swim meet number two for Medford produced several improved times and performances Thursday in a 91-51 loss at Tomahawk.

Facing a more comparable opponent to themselves than they did two days earlier at GNC power Rhinelander, the Raiders got their first individual win of the season from Mason Reimann in the 200-yard individual medley, two seconds from Logan Rouiller, one each from Roger Mann and Cale Schulz and got the secondplace points in all three relays.

Reimann was uncontested in the medley, but nonetheless cut 2.86 seconds from his Dec. 3 time while winning in 2:31.91. Reimann lowered his time by 3.38 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and took second in that race in 1:06.53. Tomahawk’s Dane DeKiep won in 1:01.65.

Rouiller shaved 0.93 seconds with his second-place time of 2:11.19 in the 200yard freestyle and Brandon Curtis took third in 3:14.27, 11.2 seconds better than two days earlier. Bruce Peetz won that race for Tomahawk in 2:07.13. Rouiller later swam the 500-yard freestyle in 6:07.31, trailing Peetz’s time of 5:52.9.

Mann cut 4.9 seconds while taking second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:07.27, while Schulz dropped 6.8 seconds to take fourth in 1:09.26 and Reese Travis cut 3.69 seconds to take fifth. Hatchet Sam Zastrow won in 55.4 seconds. Mann later added a third-place time of 1:25.99 in the 100-yard breaststroke. That was 5.39 seconds faster than he was at the Rhinelander meet.

Schulz got his first legal swim recorded in the 100-yard backstroke and took second in 1:29.81, while Curtis was fifth in 1:41.58. Curtis clipped 1.75 seconds off his opening time of the season. Travis was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at 31.58 seconds and Cullen Jones was fifth in 38.78 seconds. Jones cut 3.64 seconds off his first 50 of the season. Jones also took third in the JV 100-yard freestyle at 1:31.42.

Medford’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Curtis, Schulz, Travis and Rouiller reduced its time by 16.95 seconds while placing second in 4:59 behind Tomahawk’s time of 4:17.73. The 200-yard freestyle team of Reimann, Jones, Curtis and Mann cut 4.08 seconds while finishing in 2:12.59. Tomahawk won in 1:44.48. The Raiders beat the Hatchets’ B team by 9.23 seconds.

Rouiller, Mann, Reimann and Travis swam the 200-yard medley relay in 2:08.66. Tomahawk’s top team won that race in 1:53.83.

Medford’s first home meet is scheduled for today, Thursday, against Shawano-Seymour. The GNC dual starts at 5:30 p.m. The Raiders will be at Antigo Tuesday and host Lakeland on Dec. 19.
