Hornets strike out against Ramblers in Regional play
By Ginna Young
Cadott’s baseball program was on the road May 23, as the No. 9 seed, to No. 8 Regis, in the first round of the WIAA playoffs. Regis got on the board with two runs in the first inning and the score remained that way until the fifth inning, when the Hornets added a run.
“One inning, where Regis bats got hot, is where it got away,” said coach Brandon Geist.
That inning was the sixth, with Regis knocking in 10 runs, to claim a 12-1 victory and end Cadott’s season.
“The boys played very well and it just wasn’t our night,” said Geist.
Junior Warren Bowe was on the mound for Cadott, going just over five innings, and allowing a hit and 4 runs, while striking out 11. Sophomore Aiden Rykal then took over, giving up 8 hits and 8 runs.
On the offensive side, Bowe and senior Axel Tegels each had 2 hits, followed by Rykal and freshman Isaac Wellner, with a hit each.
This year, the Hornets won six more games than last season, and with opportunities over the summer for returning players to get better, Cadott’s future of baseball looks promising.
“I want to thank the seniors again and wish them the best of luck with whatever their future holds, and hope they got everything they could out of this season,” said Geist.
