Cadott athletes take the Regional meet by storm

The Cadott track program really brought it over the week, with multiple successes against the competition.

May 14 Home Conference

Having the conference meet at home was a bonus for the end of the regular season for the Hornets, as the athletes came ready to make high marks.

“This was one of the most competitive conference track meets in many years,” said coach Pat Rothbauer. “Numerous Conference records were broken and I believe that there will be many future State meet qualifiers that participated in this meet.”

Breaking the conference record in the 400-meter dash, was sophomore Iszy Sonnentag, who placed first in the event, in a time of 57.45, along with taking first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.44) and fourth in the long jump (16-10). Sophomore Haley Mathison also was first in the discus throw (111-08) and second in the shot put event (33-07.75).

Freshman Ali Blum placed third in shot put (30-02.75, with junior Adrianna Goodman coming in third in the long jump (16-10.5) and fifth in triple jump (33-00.5), while senior Jaycee Stephens was fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.14).

Also placing first, was the 4x800-meter relay team of juniors Cortney Weggen and Lyla Weggen, senior Emma Kowalczyk, Stephens and sophomore Taylor Hager (10:28.6).

For the boys, taking top honors was freshman Kaden Roen, who was second in the 400 dash (52.89) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.17), while senior Ayden Wilkie was fourth in pole vault (9-00) and freshman Beau Steinke took fourth in the 3,200-meter run (10:34.2).

Senior Wyatt Engel followed that up with fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.35), along with senior Cole Malecki claiming fifth in the discus throw (107-11) and sophomore Saibyn Will was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:12.31).

“As a team, we had numerous personal bests,” said Rothbauer. “Every one of our relay teams ran a season best. “We are hitting our best efforts at the right time of the year, and we are really looking forward to Regionals.”

May 20 Gilman Regional

With only the first four moving on from Regionals, the Hornets knew they had to be at their best and that’s what they did. The girls team took first place overall, blowing away the competition, as did the 4x800 team of Kowalczyk, C. Weggen, Stephens and Sonnentag (10:00.12).

Individually, they also fared well, with Sonnentag winning the 100 hurdles (15.55), 400 dash (58.65) and long jump (16-10.75). Stephens was second in the 800-meter run (2:32.71), while Mathison placed second in shot put (34-11), eighth in high jump and 13th in discus (84-05).

Junior Mia Weggen finished in fourth place in the 1,600-meter run (6:36.46), with C. Weggen in fourth in the 3,200 run (13:20.5). Goodman was fifth in the long jump (15-05.5) and triple jump (31-08.5), while L. Weggen was sixth in the 800 run (2:42.02) and 3,200 run (13:43.05).

Blum was sixth in the shot put event (31-04.5) and 15th in discus (80-05), with Kowalczyk eighth in the triple jump (29-04) and sophomore Dani Sikora in 10th for the 800 run (2:54.81). Sophomore Marley Mengel was 11th in the 300-meter hurdles (1:01.94), with freshman Maddie Hrdlicka a few steps behind in 13th (1:11.19), followed by sophomore Josie Roth in 14th (1:11.27).

Junior Molli York placed 19th in shot put (25-05.5), sophomore Clara Blanchette was 18th in the 200 dash (32.66) and junior Abigail Goettl finished 21st in long jump (11-03).

In the boys’ side of things, Engel was second in the 110 hurdles (17.87) and sixth in the long jump (18-00.5), with Steinke finishing third in the 800 run (2:06.77) and 3,200 run (10:30.36). Roen took fourth in the 200 dash (23.96), fifth in the 400 dash (53.12) and 10th in the long jump (16-05.75).

Placing 10th, was senior Eli Burich, in the 1,600 run (5:30.47) and 11th in the 800 run (2:27.36), while junior Tucker Salzgeber placed 10th in shot put (35-09.5) and 15th in the discus throw (96-07), with Malecki 11th in discus (100-09) and 14th in shot out (32-02).

Freshman Brener Rodriguez came in 11th in the 400 dash (1:02.05) and 26th in the 200 dash (29.56), while junior Ethan Kerschner was 12th in the 800 run (2:28.97) and senior Sage Handrick placed 15th in the triple jump (28-08), followed by sophomore Mitchell Reineke in 17th in the discus (89-07).
