Bears prove too much for the Red Sox to overcome

Baseball fans had a great day for a double header, as the Cadott Red Sox acted as host to the Eau Claire Bears, for a Sunday afternoon of games.

May 19 vs. Eau Claire Bears (L 8-6)

Coming to call on the Red Sox, was the Eau Claire team, for the first game of the double header. Cadott struck first over the Bears, in the opening inning, putting two runs on the board.

The score would remain at 2-0 in Cadott’s favor until the fifth inning, when the Bears had six runs cross the plate. The Sox answered back in their side of the inning, with four runs, tying the game, but Eau Claire was determined not to go home without a victory, adding two runs in the sixth inning, to seal an 8-6 win.

Alex Schmidt was on the mound for Cadott, going two innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, taking the loss, while Zack Thiesse threw for over four innings, giving up 6 hits and 6 runs, but striking out 3.

Luke Erickson ended with 3 hits in the game, while Sam Feck had 2 and Jonah Kein, Jack Redwine, Zac Merritt, Logan Burzynski and Ely Johnson all added a hit each.

May 19 vs. Eau Claire Bears (L 17-4)

In game two, the Sox fell behind early, watching the Bears notch 14 runs in just three innings. Cadott attempted a rally in the bottom of the third inning, knocking in four runs, but Eau Claire wasn’t done and added three more runs over the next two innings, to take a 17-4 victory.

Gio Basile took the mound for an inning for Cadott, allowing 7 hits and 13 runs, while Merritt went for just over two innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs. Rick Danielson also pitched for an inning, allowing 3 hits and a run.

Kein and Erickson had the lone hits of the day, with each one recording a hit.
