Abby track picks up steam in Medford

The Abbotsford track team had a number of top finishes at the meet held in Medford on Tuesday afternoon and evening, their sole competition over the past week. The girls squad garnered 19 top eight performances while the boys team earned 16 such spots, including three victories and three runner up spots.

Chase Boller, Christian Fuentes and Margo Pogodzinski all notched wins for the Falcons in their respective field events on Tuesday. Boller was the only athlete to clear a height of five feet, 10 inches in the high jump while Fuentes defeated Stanley Boyd’s Madden Mahr by the narrowest of margins in the long jump, his distance of 20 feet, five inches just half an inch further than his Orioles competitor. Pogodzinski was the only thrower in the girls discus to reach triple digits, her longest attempt of the day measuring 102 feet, seven inches.

Sydney Falteisek and Oriah Harris picked up individual second place finishes. Falteisek was the runner-up in the high jump with a height of four feet, eight inches and Harris’s time of 27.92 seconds in the 200-meter dash was only topped by Lakeland’s Kieran Petrie. The girls 4x200-meter relay team also took second place with a time of 1:53.14.

In addition to her second place finish in the high jump, Falteisek also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.03 and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.33 seconds. Azul Diaz and Celia Schindler added third place finishes for the girls team as well, with Diaz doing so in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:59.21 and Schindler taking it in the triple jump, her furthest attempt measuring 32

feet, eight-and-three-quarters inches.

On the boys side, Boller picked up a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, three-and-a-quarter inches and Jack Schindler grabbed a third of his own in the 3200-meter run, posting a time of 11:35.92.

Chloe Cihlar’s time of 13.85 seconds earned her fourth in the 100-meter dash. The junior sprinter also took fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.94 seconds. Pogodzinski put up another scoring performance for the Falcons, this time in the shot put, where she took fourth with a distance of 30 feet, four inches. Celia Schindler scored in the 800-meter run, taking fifth with a time of 2:43.66.

On the boys side, Fuentes and Daniel Davila grabbed fourth place finishes in the 200-meter dash and the shot put respectively. Fuentes earned his placement by posting a time of 24.13 seconds while Davila’s throw of 38 feet, five inches was the fourth best of the day. Jack Schindler added another long distance scoring performance to his resume by taking fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:59.61 and Irvin Davila also grabbed a fifth for the Falcons, doing so in the discus with a throw of 110 feet, nine inches.
