Medford junior Mattie Gebert nearly swept the girls high school individual championships and Dylan Emmerich nearly won the middle school boys bullseye title while the Gilman Pirates were a team runner-up and Jazmyn Robinson was an individual runner-up in the 3-D shoot during the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Wisconsin state championship events last weekend at Wisconsin Dells.

Gebert won the high school girls 3-D championship with a score of 284 out of a possible 300. She topped a field of 104 archers in the high school girls division, which had two more top-10 finishers from Medford. Tana Rappe was fifth with her score of 278 and Jenna Wickersheim was one point behind Rappe, good for eighth place and second place out of 19 senior girls. Gilman’s Stephens was 22nd at 266 and Medford’s Kadence Weix was 25th at 265.

Gilman’s high school team score in the 3-D shoot, based on the three highestscoring boys and three highest-scoring girls was 1,647, just 27 behind champion Stratford. The Pirates actually tapped into their middle-school archers to achieve that score. Eighth-grader Jazmyn Robinson was Gilman’s top 3-D scorer with a 280 that put her second out of 103 middle school girls. Olivia Draeger of Auburndale, a seventh grader, was the only middle school girl better with a 287. Kennedy Buske was seventh for the Pirates at 273.

Gilman’s Makii Austin Mallo was the seventh-ranked middle school boy out of 124 entrants with a 277 and Colton Lang was ninth at 275. Dalton Wisocky shot a 274 and was Gilman’s top high school 3-D archer, placing 14th out of 87 male competitors. Wyatt Webster also shot a 274 and placed 16th in the high school division.

Medford placed fifth in the high school standings with 1,628 points. In the middle school standings, Gilman placed fourth with 1,598 points and Medford was 10th with 1,528.

Bullseye shoot

Dylan Emmerich, who was sixth among middle school boys in the 3-D shoot with a score of 277, shot a 287 in the bullseye event to fall two points shy of a potential state championship.

The Medford sixth-grader hit 18 10-point shots to rank second out of 374 middle school boys. The only one better was Joe Maciosek from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Sparta. He shot a 289. Lang hit the top five as well for Gilman, shooting a 286 to place fifth.

Gebert shot a 289 to rank second overall out 284 high school girls. She hit 21 10-point shots and fell four points behind champion Faith Kubista of Cornell. Gebert was second overall in both shoots. The 3-D shoot had 264 girls and the bullseye shoot featured 707 girls.

Robinson had another good round for Gilman, scoring a 279 to place sixth out of 308 middle school girls. Shyan Pentimone was 11th for the Pirates at 276 and Reece Weir was 13th at 275. Mallo also shot a 275 to rank 26th among middle school boys. Wisocky led Gilman’s high schoolers with a score of 288 that placed seventh out of 290 shooters.

Medford’s Ezra Hillebrand was 32nd among high school boys with a 279 and Naomi Fleegel was 40th among high school girls with a 272.

Gilman finished fifth in the high school team standings with 3,256 points, while Medford was ninth with 3,209. Cadott won the championship with 3,405. Medford was 14th (3,024) and Gilman was 16th (3,007) in the middle school standings.
