Cornell takes the wind right out of the Bobcats

The Cornell girls basketball program were determined to play to the best of their ability Feb. 9, as Birchwood came to town for a conference bout.
“We came out ready for a win against Birchwood,” said coach Stacey Schroeder.
So ready, in fact, that Cornell held the visitors to just four points in the opening half of the game. The second half, the Bobcats didn’t fare much better against Cornell’s defensive efforts and the Chiefs took the win, 53-13.
“We played aggressively on defensive and that is something we have been working on,” said Schroeder. “Offensively, we took better care of the ball and used the opportunity to score.”
Junior Bralee Schroeder led for Cornell, 16 points, 7 steals and 6 rebounds, while freshman Haylee Ellis had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Senior Lauren Samardzich finished the night with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, followed by junior Alyssa Bowe, who had 8 points and 4 steals.
Senior Grace Harycki also got in the books with 3 points, 4 steals and 4 blocks.
