Three Stratford wrestlers on Saturday including sophomore Colin Cournoyer and juniors Carter Lueck and Walker Weis won individual Marawood Conference tournament championships in their weight classes at Phillips High School on Saturday.

Cournoyer pinned Marathon sophomore Cale Quaintance in two minutes, 29 seconds in the first place match at 120 pounds. Lueck has a 42-1 match record this season after pinning Phillips sophomore Ayron Deleasky in 1:41 in the first place match at 190 pounds. Weis pinned Auburndale senior Greg Drummond in 3:41 in the first place match at 215 pounds. Stratford wrestlers placing second in their weight classes at the conference tournament are junior Trenton Cournoyer at 126 pounds, freshman Aaron Knetter at 132 pounds, sophomore Mathias Kaiser at 138 pounds, junior Jack Tubbs at 165 pounds and sophomore Drew Gage at 285 pounds.

Tigers sophomore Lucas Forrest took third place at 144 pounds and sophomore Jaeger Ormond was third at 175 pounds. Senior Roman Schmidt placed fourth at 113 pounds, junior Brandon Knetter was fourth at 150 pounds and senior Kaleb Krummel was fourth at 157 pounds.

Graveen wins conference title

Edgar senior wrestler Harrison Graveen has a 31-5 match record this season after pinning Stratford sophomore Drew Gage in 4:35 in the first place 285-pound match at Saturday’s Marawood Conference tournament in Phillips. Wildcats freshman Isaiah Kraft placed third at 106 pounds and senior Jase Apfelbeck was third at 190 pounds. Senior Corey Schilling took fourth place at 138 pounds and junior Dakota Ellenbecker was fourth at 215 pounds.

Pair of ‘Jays finish second

Athens freshman wrestler Garrett Frahm on Saturday took second place in the 106-pound weight class and sophomore Marshall Venice was second at 113 pounds at the Marawood Conference tournament in Phillips. Sophomore Evan Passehl placed fourth at 132 pounds.

Wrestlers prepare for postseason

Local wrestlers will now get ready to compete in the WIAA Division 3 regional on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Auburndale. The team sectional is on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Cadott.

The Division 3 individual wrestler sectional is on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Edgar. Individual state is on Feb. 22-24.

BARELY BREAKING A SWEAT -

Edgar senior Harrison Graveen only needed 13 seconds to pin Chequamegon freshman Larry Komarek on Saturday at the Marawood Conference tournament in Phillips.
