Edgar wrestling outduels Wautoma/Wild Rose

Wildcats win on the tiebreaker for most pins in the match

Edgar’s varsity wrestling squad concluded Friday’s Wautoma quad with a 2-1 record. The Wildcats ended the quad with a thrilling 42-42 tie against the Wautoma/ Wild Rose Hornets. Edgar gained one point for the tiebreaker, based on which team had the most pins in the match, to prevail with a 43-42 win against Wautoma/ Wild Rose. The Wildcats had six pins and the Hornets had three in the match.

Wildcats grapplers winning competitive bouts against the Hornets are Isaiah Kraft pinning Colton Buechner in 25 seconds in the 113-pound weight class; Corey Schilling pinning Josh Wakeley in three minutes, five seconds at 132 pounds; Austin Schreiber pinning Camden Miller in 3:10 at 144; Preston Erickson pinning Josh Roche in 30 seconds at 165; Lucas Stahnke pinning Hunter Half in 45 seconds at 190 and Dakota Ellenbecker pinning Dalton Melvin in 1:05 at 215. Harrison Graveen received a forfeit win at 285 pounds.

Edgar also won its first match in the Wautoma Quad, 46-24, against Oshkosh North. Wildcats wrestlers gaining competitive bout wins are Tyler Schmidt pinning Carter Zick in 2:45 at 132 pounds; Schreiber pinning Andrew Brockman in 45 seconds at 144; Erickson with a 12-4 major decision against Everix Blessing at 165 and Stahnke pinning Antonio Thompson in 4:45 at 190. Ellenbecker and Graveen were awarded forfeit wins in their respective weight classes.

The Wildcats lost their match, 59-21, to the Mauston/Necedah Golden Eagles at the Wautoma quad. Edgar grapplers gaining competitive bout victories are Graveen pinning Dawson Gordon in 1:10 at 285 pounds; Kraft with a 7-5 decision against Harken Peterson at 113; Schreiber pinning Jacob Zimbauer in 47 seconds at 144 and Ellenbecker pinning Jaren Hansen in 2:38 at 215.

Edgar will compete with the rest of the Marawood Conference wrestling teams at this Saturday’s conference tournament, which begins at 10 a.m. at Phillips High School.
