ALL-MARAWOOD TRACK & FIELD

The Marawood Conference presented individual awards to six members of Rib Lake’s track and field program following the conference’s 12-team championship meet in Stratford on May 15.

The conference presents first-, secondand third-place awards to the top three finishers in each event. Rib Lake senior Theo Robisch earned a third-place award in the boys high jump. He cleared the bar at 5 feet, 10 inches which, at the time was a personal record. He got an inch higher one week later at the WIAA Division 3 regional meet, also held at Stratford. Mason White Eagle of Auburndale (6 feet) and Benjamin Zuelke of Stratford (5-10) got the first- and second-team awards.

The league also awards honorable mention to the fourth- through sixthplace finishers in each event and that’s where the Redmen picked up a bunch more awards.

Junior Olivia Lopez picked up two of them by taking fifth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Lopez finished the 100-meter final in 13.4 seconds, 0.7 seconds behind champion Bella Thomas, a freshman from Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Lopez ran the 200-meter final in 27.68 seconds. Thomas won that race in 26.66 seconds. Lopez went on to qualify for state in the 200-meter dash and finished 12th in the preliminaries in a school-record time of 26.92 seconds.

Senior Dominick Classen was fourth in the boys 400-meter dash to pick up an individual honorable mention award. His time was 52.33 seconds, 0.42 seconds behind third-place finisher Kohlbe Weisenberger of Assumption. Nolyn Lindner of Newman Catholic (51.03) and Conner Weigel of Stratford (51.6) got the top spots. At the time, it was Classen’s fastest time in the open 400, an event he’s rarely run. He dropped down to 51.76 seconds a week later at the regional and qualified for the sectional meet in Marathon.

Rib Lake’s 3,200-meter relay team of Classen, freshman Kaleb Scott, sophomore Jack Regier and senior Ryan Buehler took fourth in its race with a time of 8:45.1 to earn honorable mention. Stratford (8:36.55), Auburndale (8:37.5) and Phillips (8:38.73) got the top three awards in the event. Rib Lake’s crew lowered its time to 8:40.63 at the regional and qualified for the sectional meet.

Rib Lake’s 1,600-meter relay team of Scott, Robisch, Regier and Classen got honorable mention by placing fifth in the Marawood meet at 3:44.89, just ahead of Auburndale (3:45.85) and just behind fourth-place Stratford (3:41.25). The top three awards went to Marathon (3:36.14), Newman Catholic (3:38.72) and Edgar (3:41.18).
