Richter sets girls 3,200-meter record; boys second at Marshfield
MEDFORD TRACK & FIELD
In their last chance to build momentum heading into the track and field meets that matter most, that’s exactly what the Medford Raiders did Friday, making improvements across the board at the five-team Marshfield Invitational.
The girls took third and got another school-record effort from Meredith Richter. The junior, six days after setting a new school record in the 1,600-meter run, broke the mark in the 3,200-meter run while entering the event for the first time this spring and while basically competing by herself, winning in 11:19.51, a time that was 2:43.82 ahead of Mariam McKee of Marshfield.
Richter broke the record of 11:28 that had been held by 2005 graduate Holly Liske.
Ella Daniels also was a winner for Medford in girls competition. She took the 1,600-meter run in 6:01.46, comfortably ahead of Mosinee’s Jena Bartnik (6:22.15) and her best time of the spring by nearly six seconds.
Daniels, Lillie Gleichauf, Richter and Riley Clark got second-place points in the 3,200-meter relay at 10:54.62.
Jaylin Machon earned second in the pole vault and third in the 100-meter high hurdles. She was one of three vaulters to top out at 9 feet, 6 inches. Her seasonbest hurdles time of 17.44 seconds was 0.8 seconds behind winner Danielle Minsaas of Marshfield.
