Cadott can’t get past Ramblers and Rockets

Luck and the weatherman were with the Cadott baseball program, as the Hornets got in two games over the week.

April 21 vs. Regis conference (L 20-1)

On the road against Regis in a league match, Cadott knew it would be tough going, as the Ramblers are defending State champs and could be on track to repeat.

“Very well-coached team,” said coach Brandon Geist. It was obvious Regis came to play, as they scored four runs in the first inning and five in the second. The Hornets attempted a comeback, putting a run on the board in the third inning, but that was all the offense they could muster.

The Ramblers went on to add 11 more runs over the next two innings, to take a 20-1 win.

“We just got ourselves into a hole early and couldn’t recover,” said Geist.

On the mound for the Hornets, junior Henry Danielson went for two innings, giving up 6 hits and 9 runs, while walking 4 batters and striking out 2. Junior Axel Tegels then took the mound for an inning, allowing 2 hits and 4 runs, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Finishing up pitching for Cadott, was junior Braden Denzine, who went the final inning, giving up 5 hits, 7 runs and 4 walks, while striking out 1.

Offensively, it was slim pickings, but senior Tristan Drier, junior Ashton Bremness and freshman Michael Wellner all came up with a hit.

In order to improve as the season goes on, Geist knows what has to be done.

“Getting guys on base and still waiting for that big hit,” he said.

April 24 vs. Spencer non-conference (L 9-3)

After a weekend off, it was off to Spencer for the Hornets, in a non-conference clash.

“We got off to good start and it got away from us late,” said Geist.

The game would go to the Rockets, 9-3, handing Cadott their third loss of the season, for a 1-3 record.

Taking the mound for the Hornets, was Bremness, who went five innings, allowing 5 hits, two runs and 5 walks, striking out 2. Tegels then went for one inning, with 4 hits, 7 runs and a walked batter.

“Ashton Bremness pitched a great game and we did a lot of good things,” said Geist.

Leading on offense for Cadott, was sophomore Warren Bowe, with 4 hits, followed by Tegels and junior Connor Roth, who had a hit each.

“We were able to make a few great plays defensively to keep us in the lead,” said Geist, “but they had some breaks go their way and eventually took the lead, but great team effort.”
