ALL-LAKELAND WRESTLING

Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe wrestlers Braeden Person and Troy Duellman were named to the 16-man All-Lakeland Conference wrestling team for the 202223 season.

Duellman, a junior, was named to the squad for the third straight season. Person, a senior, makes his second appearance on the list.

The Lakeland Conference held its season-ending tournament on Feb. 4, hosted by Shell Lake. Clear Lake won the meet with 232 points, easily outscoring runner-up and last year’s champion, the Luck Co-op. The league’s eight teams, most of whom aren’t able to field a full lineup, also competed in a series of double duals throughout the regular season.

The Wolfpack had just four wrestlers during their 2022-23 season. Duellman and Person both represent Gilman in the co-op.

Duellman finished his year on the awards podium at the Kohl Center in Madison following a sixth-place finish in the WIAA Division 3 state tournament at 145 pounds. He finished 30-9 overall.

Duellman took second at 145 pounds in the Lakeland Conference tournament, pinning Flambeau’s Bradyn Reisner in 1:45 and Unity’s Tanner Freer in 2:36. He lost 6-4 to Clear Lake’s Tyler Sunday in the final. Sunday went 5-0 against Duellman this year, including a win in the fifth-place match at state. Sunday is also a member of the All-Lakeland team.

In the conference duals, Duellman went 5-1 with four pins and a forfeit at weights ranging from 145 to 160. His only loss was to Sunday. The Wolfpack did get one win in the duals despite their low numbers, beating Bruce in a tiebreaker 19-18.

Duellman won the 152-pound title at the Auburndale Invitational on Dec. 17 and placed in his weight classes at Barron on Dec. 10, at Ladysmith on Jan. 14 and St. Croix Falls on Jan. 21.

Person was the 152-pound runner-up in the Lakeland Conference tournament, pinning Clear Lake’s Blake Harris in 3:13 in the semifinals and then falling by pin in 3:58 to Unity’s Jack Ross in the final. He went 28-12 overall this season and finished fifth at the WIAA Division 3 Edgar super regional in the 152-pound weight class.

In the conference duals, Person also went 5-1 four pins and an 11-1 major decision over Harris. His only loss was a pin to Unity’s Gavin Holden. Person placed third at 152 pounds at Auburndale and was 10th at the River Falls Northern Badger Dec. 29-30. He was second in his bracket at Ladysmith.

Clear Lake leads the All-Lakeland list with five representatives and Shell Lake has three. The Wolfpack, Unity and the Luck Co-op have two representatives each and Bruce and Turtle Lake-Clayton have one each.

Clear Lake’s Dominic Leintz was named the Lakeland Conference Wrestler of the Year. The senior went 51-2 and finished third at 138 pounds in the WIAA Division 3 state tournament.

Also from the All-Lakeland team, Luck Co-op’s Lucas D’Jock was sixth at state at 170 pounds in Division 2, Bruce’s Ronan Garcia won a match at 113 pounds in Division 3, while Turtle Lake-Clayton’s Mason Quade (132), Shell Lake’s Brock Naessen (160), Clear Lake’s Lukas Paulson (170) and Shell Lake’s Max Elliott (182) all qualified for state.
