Warren has explosive slam dunks

Marathon’s varsity boys basketball squad dismantled Abbotsford, 73-35, in Thursday’s road game. Junior center Grant Warren scored a game-high 25 points and he also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the victory.

Red Raiders senior guard Drew Love added 10 points. Seniors Daniel LaQua and Mason Seehafer paced the team with four assists each. Marathon remains tied with Newman Catholic for first place in the Marawood South Conference. The Red Raiders lost, 73-69 in overtime, to the Cardinals in the their first matchup this season.

Marathon’s home game on Friday, Feb. 17, against Newman Catholic should determine whether the Red Raiders or Cardinals win the Marawood South Conference championship this season.

The Red Raider girls also defeated Abbotsford, 50-43, on Thursday. Senior guard Kali Prihoda led Marathon with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Ashley Phakitthong added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Tigers down Eagles

Stratford’s varsity boys basketball team upended Chequamegon, 46-39, on the road Monday. Senior guard Ashton Wrensch led the Tigers with 20 points. Sophomore guard Brady Schmidt added 16 points and he paced the squad with five assists.

‘Jays destroy ‘Cats

The Athens varsity boys basketball squad easily defeated Northland Lutheran, 88-44, on Monday at home.

Senior center Aiden Janke obtained a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Connor Sheahan contributed 20 points and he led the Bluejays with five assists. Senior forward Connor Komarek added 18 points.

Athens also beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 6055, on Friday at home.

Sheahan led the Bluejays with 17 points while junior Andrew Schaer added 15 and Janke had 14. Janke paced the team with 11 rebounds.

‘Cats beat Loggers

Edgar’s varsity boys basketball squad defeated Phillips, 55-40, in Friday’s road game.

Leyton Schuett, a sophomore, achieved a game-high 16 points and five steals. Junior Brett Baumgartner contributed 12 points. Senior Justin Davis and junior Karter Butt added eight points apiece.

Junior Teegan Streit led the Wildcats with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
