The Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe Wolfpack hosted a Lakeland Conference double-dual meet Thursday in Cornell with two of the league’s deeper teams and came away with some mixed results.

The Unity Eagles won the first dual 60-6 with the Eagles taking three of the four contested matches. Troy Duellman was the Wolfpack’s winner, jumping ahead early and eventually pinning Tanner Freer in 2:56 in the 152-pound match.

“It was a bit of a rough start against Unity,” Wolfpack head coach Greg Sonnentag said. “I think all of our wrestlers had matches they could have won and in two cases were in the lead before they were pinned.”

At 160 pounds, Braeden Person had a 2-1 first-period lead over Gavin Holden, but Holden escaped to start the second period and pinned Person in 2:57. At 132 pounds, Preston Fredrickson had a 4-3 first-period lead after a two-point near fall, but after an exchange of reversals in the second period, Adrien Olson pinned him in 3:08. At 220 pounds, Anthony Schofield got a first-period takedown but was pinned in the second period in 2:57 by Alex Holden.

The Wolfpack forfeited at 285, 106, 113, 126, 138, 145 and 195 pounds.

Things went better in the second dual, a 54-24 loss to the Luck Co-op.

“The second dual was a better round for us,” Sonnentag said. “We finished that dual off with three pins and a forfeit to put up the maximum points possible for our squad.”

Duellman pinned Erik Currie in 1:38 in the 145-pound match and Person got his pin in 1:51 over Levi King at 152 pounds. Schofield bumped up to 285 pounds and worked into the third period before he finally was able to get Conner Tollefson taken down and pinned at 5:08. Fredrickson took a forfeit at 132.

Luck-Siren-Frederic-Grantsburg only won the dual because it accepted forfeits at 113, 120, 126, 138, 160, 170, 182, 195 and 220 pounds.

The Luck Co-op defeated Unity 60-24 in the third dual of the evening.

The Wolfpack also attended a Lakeland Conference double-dual at Clear Lake Tuesday, which was rescheduled after initially being postponed on Dec. 15. Full results weren’t available at press time, but the results of the team’s meet with Shell Lake were available.

The Lakers won 30-18, but Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe got a pin from Duellman in 1:34 over Carter Allen at 145 pounds and a pin from Person in 1:02 over Joe Harrington at 152 pounds. Fredrickson got a forfeit win at 132 pounds.

Clear Lake beat Shell Lake 66-0 and is one of the teams to beat in the Lakeland Conference tournament, which is set for Saturday at Shell Lake High School, starting at 10 a.m.

The Luck Co-op won last year’s tournament, followed by Unity, Shell Lake and Clear Lake.

The WIAA Divisin 3 Edgar super regional follows on Feb. 11.
