Going into the boys basketball game against conference opponent Clayton Jan. 27, Cornell senior Dylan Bowe was a mere 10 points away from setting a personal record of 1,000 career points scored. Ever since he was a freshman, Bowe has attended basketball camps and worked hard in the offseason to accomplish that goal.

Hitting 1,000 is nothing new to Bowe, as he reached that mark last fall, recording over 1,000 yards on the football field.

“Coming into this basketball season, I knew I had a chance at getting another grand in another sport,” said Bowe. “I knew it would be challenging, but I worked hard all season to get this achievement.”

Bowe’s 1,000 points came on a free throw, with his knowledge that he needed to make both shots to reach the milestone. With the pressure on, Bowe had full support from fans, as the game was played in Cornell.

“I wanted to get it this game, because getting an achievement like that at a home game, makes it more special,” said Bowe. “It was the best feeling ever. It felt like my hard work finally paid off.”

Bowe says he is very grateful to the community for coming to watch the Chiefs play, as well as his coaches for having his back and to his teammates, who believe him.

Since Bowe has always wanted to reach the 1,000th point in the sport he loves so well, he wants to encourage others to follow their passion and accomplish their own records.

“So, I would tell the younger athletes to never give up on your dreams and goals,” said Bowe. “Throughout life, there will be ups and downs, but if you never give up and continue to work hard, you can accomplish anything. This will be a memory I will never forget.”
