MEDFORD CURLING

Medford’s boys curling team picked up a win over Waupaca at home on Tuesday afternoon, while the fastimproving but young girls team was unable to hold onto key ends and took a loss.

On the girls side, despite a crowded house, Waupaca was able to hang one for one point in the first end. This was answered by Medford’s team of Caidyn Zenner, Erica Brandner and Adalyn Dittrich with a point of their own in the second end. Waupaca was able to capitalize on having hammer and scored three in the third end. Waupaca went on to score another point each in the fourth and fifth ends, two in the sixth and a single point in the seventh before Medford answered with a point of their own in the eighth end. The final score was 9-2.

Medford’s boys team of Brett Lundy, Alex Wilson and Nathan Willman pulled out an 8-5 win over the Comets. The Raiders got on the ropes early with Waupaca scoring one in the first end and two more in the second despite a number of Medford rocks being in the house. Medford tied things up in the third end scoring three, before allowing Waupaca to take one rock in the fourth and fifth ends.

The boys took the lead by scoring three in the sixth end and adding to that with one point each in the seventh and eighth ends for a final score of 8-5.

Last week, both teams hit a rough patch taking losses on Jan. 17 at Waupaca and on Friday at Wausau West. The Raiders travel to Wausau to face D.C. Everest this Friday afternoon before facing Stevens Point at home at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
